Lipstick

I've never worn lipstick and never had a make over to find what colours suit me. Due to my anxiety I refuse to sit in a shop in front of everyone having it done and because of physical issues I can't get into town very often anyway.

So I was idly browsing through Amazon and found a brand selling 6 shades of reds, nudes and pinks for £4 for each set of 6.

So I decided on buying them using the logic I could buy one from a decent brand for the price I paid for 18 and it still be wrong. Never mind the price of parking etc to get to town. Anyway, they turned up today and I've found myself 4 colours that really work for me and a further 5 I need a second opinion on, so I'm now going to see if any top brand lipsticks come in the colours I feel confident in. The other lipsticks are going in dd's play makeup kit so won't be wasted.

So

What brands would you recommend?

I don't like the feel of greasy lips as you get from glosses so would like a brand that doesn't feel like I'm wearing it if possible. These lipsticks are wearable but have that greasy feeling to them so whilst I'll use them I can't see me sticking to them once they wear out.

Clarins lipsticks are lovely, come in lots of shades and smell amazing. That's where I'd go.

Rommel Kate Moss ones are fab for not being greasy or perfumed .

I like Nars lipsticks.

Mac Lipsticks are great too

Try MUA at Superdrug. Only a pound and some are v nice. My daughter has a No 7 one which she rates highly.

I'm going to give a vote to Kiko. I wore Nars Audacious Anita all day yesterday, and decided that I like Kiko Unlimited Stylo #02 a bit more: comfier to wear, less drying and longer-lasting. With Kiko, you can do a random online order, they don't cost much, and you'll get an extremely high quality lipstick and beautiful saturated colors. I have several Nars lipsticks and a lot of Chanel lipsticks, but I wear my Kikos almost daily, they are that good.

Rommel Kate Moss Grin

Rimmel Kate Moss and Kiko are fantastic high street brands for lipstick.

If it's a high end treat I love Chanel and YSL lipsticks.

Welcome to lipstick wearing! Nothing is quite as much of a confidence boost as just slapping on a brilliant lipstick Grin

Frustrated, am I missing something with Kiko as their minimum spend seems to be £25 with shipping costs on top?

I'm not near a shop and I just want to try a couple of things but not spend £25 +

FrustratedFrugal · 15/11/2015 14:04

Sorry I didn't know about the shipping limit at Kiko, I usually buy instore as I'm often in Italy. There, MAC shops are almost invariably empty but Kikos are always full of people. If you are into packaging, their Velvet Mattes (neither velvety nor matte) and Intensely Lavish ones have really nice packaging. I like my Chanel lipsticks too, they do satiny ones that are really flattering and nice to wear, but their quality is not better than Kiko or Max Factor. I dislike the Chanel Rouge Allure packaging, I've accidentally broken several.

Thank you everyone! I'll check out these brands.

Oddly enough I have some kiko nail varnish from a trip to Italy. They were cheap and cheerful but nothing special. I'd put them in a par with Barry M. Would that be fair for the rest of the range?

Kiko nail varnish is crap ime - they chip immediately. The lipsticks are a different story. My Kiko favorites are their lipsticks and eyeliner and a blusher in a wooden box.

I just bought some Nyx ones that are really good . Pigmented and again not smelly!
What's so funny about a typo ?
