Winter wedding in unheated barn

You wise buddahs sorted me out for a summer wedding earlier in the year and now I have a winter wedding conundrum. The wedding is being held mid December in an unheated church and then in a barn. We have been told to wrap up. A friend has loaned me a floor length black coat with black (fake) fur trim at the collar and cuffs (which I need to get a belt for to cinch it in as it's too big for me). I have zero clue about what to wear underneath it. Would anyone have any ideas please? I am size 10 and need to have my decolletage area covered as it's scrawny - photos attached so you can see what we're working with. To complicate matters further I am on a budget: £50 tops. Thank you.

Fine, thermal underwear, including tights. You can start off in it, and decide whether to take it off later (depending on how heated the barn is in practice) as it's very fine and will scrunch up to nothing if you shove it in a handbag.

Hello auntiestella great tips for the thermals. I think I need some of those in my life generally!

pants that dress does look awesome but I had a run in with tulle after the fabulous sounding idea on here. I went and tried on tulle skirt and cashmere jumper (wrong colours in photo but just trying shapes) as suggested and I felt like a dowdy bus. Good to try though. I loved the theory of that idea.

Instead I bought the teal lace dress. Ignore the pasty legs and lack of shoes but what do you think? I intend to get nude tights and wear black heels. My sister has loaned me a teal suede swarovski bracelet. I will then wear coat to church. A corsage of some sort and a belt and I'm hoping I'm there.

Unless you guys tell me different. I can return the dress.......

Dress is beautiful - you really suit it Smile.

You should’ve tried the jumper tucked in... Grin

Dress is really pretty but you should've pursued the tulle idea!! You need a smaller, more fitted jumper and killer heels.

I'm loving that tulle dress....how cheap?! I'm tempted to buy it just for lounging round watching tv at that price!

The teal is gorgeous on you. Where is it from? I think you'll need a warm cardi!

ecofreckle · 16/11/2015 21:41

Scarlett and kate you see that's why I need you! I'd never have thought of tucking. To be fair the size medium skirt was prohibitively tight and I could barely tuck my tummy into it let alone a wodge of jumper. I just felt like a banana really....to froofy and I felt I wasn't cool enough to carry it off.

I tried teal dress on for my Dad and sister who I visited this weekend. They both approve (although sister said it would be perfect if taken in slightly at waist) and in fact my normally fairly mute father has told me in 3 separate conversations that 'that dress really suits you' Grin

burnished it's from tkmaxx £60. The neckline, sleeves and area across bust I just totally love. Very flattering. I almost look like I have boobs! I was unsure of colour really but family seem to like it. I was concerned I looked like a quality street......

Love the grey tulle sweater Burnished. May borrow that idea!

Great choice OP, I think you'll need a cardi. Or a pashmina - they're very warm.

RollingRollingRolling · 17/11/2015 11:16

Wear the dress and cardigan, then coat on top. You'll be fine in the church. Can always take one of those instant heat hand warmers/back patches thing if you think you'll be cold
