I'll be 22 weeks pregnant so planning on wearing a sparkly knitted tunic in bigger size, maybe with leggings or a skirt if I decide to look a bit more formal. I'll probably change into the leggings after my meal!
Links welcome in this thread [santa]

Clothes. Probably something comfy.

Do people apart from my mother really dress up to hang round the house on Christmas Day, or are you going somewhere?

Blodss · 12/11/2015 23:00

I don't do sparkly but it sounds lovely OP. I will probably wear something very very warm as we live very rural in Wales. So maybe jeans, Celts and black long sleeved top and warm burgundy wrap cardi.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeG0es · 12/11/2015 23:06

Jeans and a tee shirt probably, the house gets very warm with the oven being on for such a long time.

penguinplease · 12/11/2015 23:06

Everyone I know has a Christmas Day outfit!
Not decided on mine yet, going shopping tomorrow. Will update after purchase has been made!

Bunbaker · 12/11/2015 23:10

There will just be the three of us - no visitors, so I will wear something comfy to accommodate a large lunch.

mumblechum1 · 12/11/2015 23:17

Are Christmas Day outfits seriously a thing?

TelephoneIgnoringMachine · 12/11/2015 23:22

Something comfortable, and warm. We're visiting 2 lots of family & both houses are always freezing.

Sansoora · 12/11/2015 23:31

Are Christmas Day outfits seriously a thing?

Yes. Half of my children dress up for the day and the rest dont. Its entirely up to them what they do and no one blinks an eye lid except to perhaps say - you look fab.

Due to circumstances we can have as many strangers in the house as we do family though each stranger is usually known to one member of my family and last year we had the most fabulous Elf turn up. A very sexy Elf. I didn't really know the young woman but she had been invited to come along as the workmate of one of my children and she came as the most wonderful Elf there has ever been. Others came in casual clothes whilst others were all dressed up and the funniest lunch was when one of my sons brought his entire crew home after a very long flight and they all sat there in uniform on their suitcases because we'd ran out of chairs.

So whether dressed up, in casual clothes or uniform, or even dressed as as an Elf - who cares? Just who cares? [smiles]

Pipestheghost · 12/11/2015 23:32

I'm wearing my Christmas onesie Grin

Grok · 12/11/2015 23:50

Id love to wear a onesie! Anyone know of any good places to get one? Pref not fleece but a nice heavy cotton Smile

UntilTheCowsComeHome · 12/11/2015 23:59

We always dressed up as kids. We never went anywhere but we'd have our best clothes on. My nan always wore her fancy red necklace that she kept especially for Christmas.

I usually wear a Xmas jumper, DS2 will just wear his pants, same as every other day at home. Grin

BestBeforeDate · 13/11/2015 07:00

sansoora that sounds lovely, Christmas at yours must be great fun. I always think it would be nice to get dressed up, but with all the cooking, hot fat splashing, clearing up wrapping paper on hands and knees etc it's just not practical, so I'm generally in black trousers and a bright top. DD made me a Christmas jumper last year so I'll start off in that, but it's too warm to keep on all day.

Mehitabel6 · 13/11/2015 07:12

Whatever I feel like on the day!

lavendersun · 13/11/2015 07:15

Just the three of us here so no big effort required.

I imagine it will be pyjamas all morning and lycra for my bike ride to the pub pre lunch Smile if the weather isn't rubbish.

I think that DD (9 and likes getting 'dressed up') will wear some sort of dress afterwards, I will be making her a new 'party' dress as part of her Christmas gifts so it will probably be that.

DD's presence means that I will wear something reasonably nice in the afternoon, as in clean, ironed, black velvet top and jeans type thing.

My mother always gets dressed up (but is more dressed up on a daily basis than I am on a dressed up day).

I would love a sansoora Christmas too. I often wish that we had a eclectic group at Christmas but it is always just the three of us at best and when DH has to work, just me and DD.

Germgirl · 13/11/2015 07:17

Probably a onesie. Or pyjamas. It's the only day over the festive period that I'm not working so DH and I are just spending the day lounging about eating rubbish and drinking. I can't wait!

IamSantaClaus · 13/11/2015 07:28

Oh I love the thought of dressing up for Christmas Day but my desire for being comfy would win I think . Aran jumper gets my vote

PlayingSolitaire · 13/11/2015 07:32

We've always dressed up for Christmas Day. There is something very special about making the effort for your family. As a child, my Dad always wore black tie on Christmas Day - it is the only time I have ever seen him wear it. The rest of us wore dresses. It's like being in Downton Abby dressing for dinner. I love it!!

Not decided what to wear this year yet.

PetronellaOsgood · 13/11/2015 07:34

An apron and a determined expression as I wrestle the turkey [santa]

PrimalLass · 13/11/2015 07:40

Something that I won't wreck with the mess from cooking. I ruined something I loved one Christmas Day because it got covered in grease spots.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeG0es · 13/11/2015 07:48

I can't relax dressed up, I can never wait to get out of formal clothes if I've been out somewhere smart in the evening, I'm just not comfy like that. So definitely casual all the way here.

CMOTDibbler · 13/11/2015 07:50

Pyjamas. Possibly lycra at some point if we end up going for a bike ride like last christmas day.
Just dh, ds and me here!

DurhamDurham · 13/11/2015 07:55

When hey girls were little they stayed in their new pj's all day but when they got older and we started going out for Christmas lunch they've always wore a new outfit. I've always got dressed up Christmas Day, while I Christmas shop I keep my eyes peeled for a nice dress. Last year I bought a tartan dress, haven't got anything for this year yet.

I do put my pj's back on as soon as I can........even if family have called in I get to a point and think right pj's on and go upstairs to change. If we have visitors or if we have been out for dinner or to visit people we have to be back by 8pm so I can watch all the good stuff ( Downton, Call the Midwife) on tv.

SparklesandBangs · 13/11/2015 07:57

Jeans or black trousers, then either a Christmas Top or other nice top (with a warm jumper when we go to PIL), DH will only wear jeans an a shirt, as he can't understand why you would dress up for family and anyway spends most of the time rolling around the floor with all the DC. My DDs used to dress up but now they are teen/young adult it's usually jeans and a top if we are lucky (not PJs). Nieces and Nephews still young enough for fun clothes, to be discarded as soon as they unwrap something new!

Autumn2014 · 13/11/2015 08:00

To the posters who questioned dressing up for Christmas day. We go to church in the morning so make an effort to get dressed out of our pj's. I think it's nice to have something special to wear, even if it is a comfy sweater. In our family the traditional stems from the fact that usually one of our gifts was a new outfit and we couldn't wait to wear it Christmas morning. I totally get those people who love to stay in their onsies all day too. We visit our inlaws on boxing day, so I will have a similar outfit planned for that too as I like to make an effort for my mil, and as it's the following day I won't have time to wash and dry what I wore on Xmas day.

We always dressed up as kids..
I misread this as on Christmas Day you dress up like children. Can you tell I haven't had my coffee yet?

I like wearing something nice too. Not overly formal-probably a grey cord tunic dress with a really pretty forest printed pattern on (I am desperately trying to find an excuse to buy it) and leggings.
