Im off to a 'thing' in December. What can I wear that is current but won't make me look like a fish out of water?
I don't want to deviate from 'me' but I don't want to turn up looking the equivalent of wearing a body con dress to an ac/dc gig.
I'm not a dresses and handbags type girl.
I would normally wear skinny jeans (blue) or skinny black trousers
My entire winter footwear collection consists of knee high chunky boots or Chelsea boots. I am in a quandary.

It's one of my all time regrets that I could have gone to Wigan Casino but didn't.

Anyway from what I remember, you went to show off your moves, not your clothes so I would just wear something comfortable and practical e.g. your baggiest trousers, a vest top and flat shoes. If it's an authentic event, no-one, but no-one, will be looking at you - unless you can spin! Have a good time.

Hmmm, I am a big fan and I went to many club nights when I lived in Manchester (almost 20 yrs ago -eeek!)

Skinny jeans would be fine, can you team it with a vintage style top of some kind?

Oldraver · 11/11/2015 12:50

I have a few friends who go to Northern Soul nights and it seems anything goes. Some wear smart casual wear, then there are others who go for the full on NS dress with other stles in between. One friend says there is a lot of vintage wear

NS always had a couple of different styles for woman anyway. Have a look at some recent YouTube footage to get an idea, but there are a lot of 50 somethings in what would be called 'normal' gear (cant you tell I have lots of video's popping up in my FB feed)

Everyone will be drunk enjoying themselves too much to worry about your dancing - enjoy the music and have fun!

KateSpadeAddict · 11/11/2015 20:47

I randomly ended up at at NS night last year and it was great! There were loads of women there in 60s dresses (short, high necked tunic style, block colours) with knee high boots (some were white!!) but other people were wearing jeans and tops.

Why don’t you go for your jeans - are they high waisted?
And a top like this:
www.asos.com/reclaimed-vintage/asos-reclaimed-vintage-washed-yellow-floral-collar-crop-top/prod/pgeproduct.aspx?iid=4443202&clr=Yellow&SearchQuery=collared+top+&pgesize=36&pge=0&totalstyles=61&gridsize=3&gridrow=2&gridcolumn=1

And then your knee high boots Grin

donajimena · 11/11/2015 23:11

The top is fab! Yes my jeans are high waisted. New look of course!

Haha I love the New Look high waisted jeans! I’d definitely go for that then Smile hope you have fun!

Circle skirt, granny sandals with ankle socks and blouse with long collar.

Interesting S+B thread Smile

I am old enough to remember Wigan Casino and haven't been to a NS night for 30 years [bush]

If I was to go to one now, I would put a modern twist on it by wearing high waist skinnies and tucking a tight fitting long sleeved printed shirt in

AnyFucker · 12/11/2015 22:24

bush ?

Another one who is jealous and reminiscing about previous NS nights. If you aren't sure on the dancing I say wear flats - ballets or converse style trainers - the last thing you need is to learn how to dance whilst in heels... And btw I just googled there are videos on YouTube showing basic steps so have a go, and have a blast!

Have no fashion advice, though I did go the Twisted Wheel and Highland Rooms back in the day.
