Yay or nay to these boots?

I normally find it quite easy to choose footwear! As the depth of my collection shows (literally far too deep in the bottom of two double wardrobes)
These are from Dune which I got cheaply in TKMaxx, however I'm worried there's a whiff of frumpy about them
I feel they come too high up around ankle to wear with skirts or dresses, although fit closely enough, which is a look I prefer
So would only be work with leggings and skinnies
If it makes any difference I'm 51, size 14-16, with heavy thighs, and 5'4" tall

They went back this morning!
I was wavering and you mostly confirmed my opinion of them
The search for the perfect black ankle boot will have to continue, in the meantime I am wearing charcoal grey ones, and knee length black bikers, when it has to be black
Went late night shopping tonight and saw a couple of possibles in John Lewis, but will have to wait for sale
On the other hand I got a dress in debenhams, a jumper for DS and a handbag for DD all at 40% off with a further 10% buy paying on store card
(2 more Xmas presents)
The dress cost less than the returned boots so I didn't feel too bad!
