Leather look coated leggings/skinnies

I'm putting together an outfit (in my head so far) for an upcoming night out which happens to be my birthday! On another thread I asked for suggestions as I'll be in Amsterdam so wanted something laid back but smartish! I've got a grey draped front top and now I'm wondering about coated leggings or similar to add bit of interest. BUT do you need to be v skinny for these? I'm size 14/16.

I am a 12-14 and tried some coated skinnies. They weren't terrible but my arse is larger than I would like and I just felt the slight shininess drew attention to it.

Cherrypie32 · 08/11/2015 20:25

Following to hear of sucess stories wearing these in this size!!

MrsWhirling · 08/11/2015 21:21

I have some that a love! I always wear with jumper or top which cover bottom though. I think unless you are Kendall Jenner you should cover bottom when wearing them. I got mine from Asos. I'm 5ft and size 12. Fave outfit at the mo is them, ankle boots and fine knit grey jumper. Go for it x

MsBojangles · 08/11/2015 21:26

The ones in New Look are surprising flattering.

Fuzzballs · 08/11/2015 21:26

I agree In principle about the longer tops but it doesn't always work. For me it just makes my hips look wider an I look bigger than I am

Bunbaker · 08/11/2015 21:28

I'm struggling to think that anyone larger than a size 8 or 10 would look good in them. I think shiny clothes are not very forgiving. Sorry, not what you wanted to hear.

I think I agree bunbaker but surely those pics are size 16-18??

BrendaandEddie · 08/11/2015 21:46

new look

the skinny ones

RonaldMcDonald · 08/11/2015 21:59

got some from next. size down. v nice

quirkychick · 08/11/2015 22:06

I was going to say New Look too! Coated skinnies, flattering and comfortable. Unlike H&M pleather leggings which were muffintastic and very uncomfortable!

Bunbaker · 08/11/2015 22:27

I have no idea what a size 18 looks like Fuzzballs. I was just trying to show how I thought they might look.

Runningupthathill82 · 09/11/2015 08:40

I think that tight, shiny clothes are very unflattering on most people over a size 10. Bunbaker's pics are testament to that. But if you love them, go for it anyway.

lurkingfromhome · 09/11/2015 08:42

New Look high-waisted skinny coated. They are bloody brilliant and less than £25. Just wear a longer top to do a layering thing (long tight vest first then drapey top of your choice on top). Job's a good 'un.

BrendaandEddie · 09/11/2015 08:44

Depends how fat your legs are.

hellswelshy · 09/11/2015 09:03

Thanks for all the replies! My legs and bum are good but tummy round. I think longer tops and layering a good plan. I'm going to try on a few pairs - will report back and let you know...either they will look as awesome as in my mind or the upcoming 40th has triggered a midlife. ... Grin

lurkingfromhome · 09/11/2015 09:26

Yes, do report back! I bet they look awesome. I am the same shape as you and rely on layering a lot to cover that troublesome middle section Grin

BrendaandEddie · 09/11/2015 11:26

the skinny new look ones are out of stock

and size UP ( ime only) if you get them

CruCru · 09/11/2015 11:52

I bought these in berry after a recommendation on here. I am a size 18/20 and wear them with a long tunic.

I'm sure they would look better if I were very slim but, frankly, most clothes would. It's why models are thin.

CruCru · 09/11/2015 11:53

I have slimmish legs but a fat tummy.

BrendaandEddie · 09/11/2015 11:56

Gah. Berry all sold out now.

biscuitkumquat · 09/11/2015 12:03

I've got 2 pairs of these from Very.

They are incredibly flattering, and the high waist is a life saver!

I'm a 12/14, and got the 12's, and they fit really well, and don't go baggy over the evening.
