Do you really need sunscreen in the UK in November?

It sounds like an awful lot of products.

BeeeeAve · 05/11/2015 21:45

I'd say in the morning, sunscreen should go on last before make-up. And possibly ditch the foaming cleanser!

Evening sounds alright, although I dont use a toner, ad use a serum between oil and moisturiser.

I'm not the fountain of knowledge on these things, though. others might be more useful! Grin

BeeeeAve · 05/11/2015 21:47

I use:

AM
Splash face with water in shower and pat dry.
Moisturiser
Sunscreen

PM
Hot cloth cleanse (twice)
Facial oil
Serum
Moisturiser
2 x a week a Korean night mask to seal all the moisturising products in
Once a week I use Alpha Gold straight after cleaning instead of all the moisturising products.

NotTodaySatan · 05/11/2015 21:47

Sounds like way too much to me and so many products can't be doing your skin any favours.

I'd ditch the sunscreen and keep it to one moisturiser in the AM and would keep it to one cleanse and either an oil or a cream at night. And I'd only tone once a day (in the morning).

Shutthatdoor · 05/11/2015 21:47

It sounds like an awful lot of products.

^ this and I say that as someone who has a lot of products.

Bunbaker · 05/11/2015 21:59

I use a face wash in the morning then a serum and moisturiser. In the evening I use a hot cloth cleanser if I have been wearing make-up or a facewash if I haven't, then serum and night cream.

I fail to see why anyone needs to wear sunscreen in the UK at this time of year.

hunibuni · 05/11/2015 21:59

I do
AM
Wash face with water
Toner
Hyluronic gel (hydrophillic so attracts the moisture of other creams)
Moisturiser with SPF15 in the winter (Biore SPF50 in the summer)
Primer
Makeup

PM
Cleanse with micellar water
Hot cloth cleanse
Toner
Hyluronic gel
Eye/face serum
Night cream

I tend to get very dry skin in the winter so try to lock in as much moisture as possible.

Floisme · 05/11/2015 22:04

I do wear sunscreen. But I have never seen the point of serum; I've no idea what Hydraulic or Hyluronic gel even is and micellar water just made my face itch.

Bunbaker · 05/11/2015 22:06

Is toner necessary these days? I haven't bothered with toner for years.

Floisme · 05/11/2015 22:07

Me neither.

Glitteryred · 05/11/2015 22:08

Am

Wash with cetaphil in the shower
Serum
Facial oil

Pm

Wash with cleanse and hot cloth twice if wearing make up
Tone
Serum or facial oil
Night moisturiser

ridinghighinapril · 05/11/2015 22:14

Water + dove soap OR face wash a.m and p.m
Moisturiser in the mornings only.

Reading the above posts makes me think I am missing a (well known) trick or two!

Bunbaker · 05/11/2015 22:15

I use Dove soap as well.

expatinscotland · 05/11/2015 22:41

Gees, I only wash my face once a day. With Simple cleansing lotion. I don't moisturise or use sunscreen ever in the UK.

Doobigetta · 05/11/2015 22:48

In the morning I do cream cleanser rinsed off, toner, eye cream, serum and moisturiser. At night, same cleanser with hot cloth, eye makeup remover, toner, facial oil.

ridinghighinapril · 05/11/2015 23:04

What do serum and facial oil do? (Genuine question)

IAmNotDarling · 06/11/2015 07:31

Thanks all. I used to just wash my face in the morning, use moisturiser and then just wipe off make up at night. Then I read the Korean beauty thread and bought a few products. It's seems a bit of a faff but my skin looks great. I was just wondering if those not on that thread thought the order was right.

I use sunscreen as I am very fair and have a few moles on my face. It's a very light water based 50 spf one that sinks right in. It has to go under everything as it's chemical rather than physical.

I didn't tone until recently and it has made a huge difference to my pore size.

Facial oils add back what you take out from cleansing (so I understand).

I've just bought the hydraulic gel from aldi. I got the serum too but was just going to use if I was in a rush and no time to wait for both gel then day cream to dry!

I don't wear a lot of make up so I don't mind the face products taking a bit longer.

I'm 33. If that puts a different take on it?

What brand is the sunscreen just out of interest, i always struggle to find them that aren't too thick for the face

IAmNotDarling · 06/11/2015 07:57

Biore uv Aqua rich watery gel - from Amazon. It's a Korean import.

I have a lightweight physical sunscreen that is a neutragena for the summer that I put on last, but before make up.

Wolpertinger · 06/11/2015 08:05

I don't think it's a massive amount of products but it prob could be done slightly better and in a better order.

am - Non-foaming cleanser
toner - only if it's acid toner, otherwise don't bother
Hyaluronic - made no difference to me but the Aldi one is pennies and I know lots of people love it
Day cream - only if you think you need it as well as the hyaluronic, sunscreen and makeup
Sunscreen - last before makeup

pm- double cleanse if you want to I am too lazy
toner - again only if acid, once daily may be enough
facial oil - I have never seen the point but I tend to spotty anyway
night cream - if you are serious about products use a retinol

IAmNotDarling · 06/11/2015 08:57

Please can you explain about non-foaming cleansers?

OP posts:
Caprinihahahaha · 06/11/2015 09:02

Foaming cleansers tend to be way too drying.

Caprinihahahaha · 06/11/2015 09:03

Don't ditch the sunscreen.

Nabootique · 06/11/2015 09:09

Just use your second cleanse from the evening in the morning instead. And what PPs said, sunscreen last before make up (if you wear it).

IAmNotDarling · 06/11/2015 09:11

But doesn't chemical sunscreen have to bond with bare skin?
