No, I'm collecting, not de-collecting. Grin MrsS, we should compare collections sometime! Have you got all your old I-Spy books?

Molly Grin at email.

Stropps, with you on the dressing up. We'd both look fabby (no doing down!), but it is so not me. That's great about dd - exhausting rollercoaster for you, but so good, I think, when they review their default settings and decide to change, even if very temporarily.

I watched a bit of Nigella and am a bit baffled by all the sideways glances and lingering shots of her lips and bosoms. Not sure what it is really about or who it is for?

Our electrical problems have been narrowed down so we can choose between using the bathroom or having lights on in the kitchen. Progress, of sorts.

Rosebag · 05/11/2015 09:16

I'm assuming spag means spelling and grammar. I agree with tilly. It needs to be embedded in the curriculum. And how awful for poor DS, stropps to have all the fun subjects shelved. I despair for the children and all those dedicated teachers out there who are shackeled by the requirements of the league tables and ofsted. I'll be so happy to be out of it next year. Can't come soon enough for me.

I am tired. But was so cheered last night to see how happy DD was in her vocal group, and the lovely performance they put on. It's a long day for them, and the coach got caught in the grid lock caused by the demo in town yesterday so they got to the venue late. But she seems to take it all in her stride. After they left I was relieved to be on the table with mostly staff rather than toffs. But it was a late one and I'm very bleary eyed but have to keep going. I have a new class starting tonight.

DS is back from choir retreat having loved it, but says he's panicking about "commitments " whatever than means. We are going to Have A Talk About It tonight...I'll strangle him if he starts making a fuss about the band even though I admit I'm living through my DC Angry he's agreed to it,..he's got to step up. It's a professional show with a paying audience. It'll all be over by January and then he can spend every waking hour concentrating on school...but he won't, of course. He'll be watching Pretty Little Liars back to back and sleeping the rest of the time Confused Hmm Grin

Rosebag · 05/11/2015 09:17

So what about that crepey ball then....

bigTillyMint · 05/11/2015 11:11

OMG, just clicked on a Preppers thread thinking it was something about getting food sorted for the week ahead. It seems to be all about getting prepared for a possible zombie attack or something. WTAF?Shock

DH doesn't mind watching Nigella cooking progsWink

Crepey ball sounds good to me!

Cremo · 05/11/2015 11:12

Stropps, glad to hear of small victories with dd.you are amazing parents, and doing a brilliant job in trying circs.
Rose, the top is gorge, and I can see you in it looking fab. I love a bit of dressing up and looking completely different from my normal harried grumpy self. There will be a party for all the staff who have jumped ship In December and I am already sweating about what to wear. Even for a pub party people here seem to properly Dress Up and plan things like hair appointments and nail gelling and such. I was always one for dm's and jeans in my yoof ,and the back of smoky dives. Not used to this glam and fab culture that is the New City.( It is ridiculous thoughts like this that keep me from thinking about what is actually going on in work btw) I am clearly out of step with a lot of things.Hmm

Still having over proposed trip for dhs 50th. Can't settle on anything.

In a fit of badly dusted and unwiped bathroom taps , I have this morning, fired the cleaner. And feel quite relieved by it. I really think she's been taking the piss for years. And breathe.

Cremo · 05/11/2015 11:20

I think Nigella is trying to say, look at me, I am a Crepey, and have been through hell and everything life can throw at you and have come out the other side and Have Still Got It. Like anyone cares. Look at me and my sultry avocado, because I'm Worth It. l also like the recipes, but could do without the swagger iyswim.

Meant to say Auriga, I have a friend like this as well, and have no time for her any more. That behaviour is just Rude and cannot be made up for by charm. You are an amazing host and I am constantly impressed by you entertaining prowess. You'd be lucky to get a baked potato chez nous atm.Grin

herbaceous · 05/11/2015 12:00

I get her message, crem, but she lays it on thicker than her mashed avocado. Though it's not as teeth-itchingly annoying as the "oh look I've spilled cream down my cleavage, silly me" years.

I'd love to do a crepey ball. Love the chance to dress up, even if it rapidly descends into chaos. Talking of which, now having to ramp up my party prep. Have done precisely nothing (0, zilch) about it so far. Apart from find a toy dog to carry under my arm in manner of rich eccentric American.

bigTillyMint · 05/11/2015 12:58

Well done on firing the cleaner Cremo - hope you find a better one fast!
And thumbs up to S&B taking your mind off work worries.

Herbs, we can all dress up for your party, no?Smile

herbaceous · 05/11/2015 13:10

Oh yes. Dress for the captain's table.

Cremo · 05/11/2015 13:24

If we were having a Crepey Ball I'd have to go the whole hog and hire something from Alice Temperley or like this. I wonder if you can rent Westwood couture

NUFC69 · 05/11/2015 13:24

I think DH likes Nigella because I see him surreptitiously watching her, although he denies it.

Crem, congratulations on sacking the cleaner - I would probably have expected DH to do it. Angry Yes, to a Crepey ball - I could be like the dowager, sitting in the corner with my fingerless gloves, cackling over the antics of you young things.

I managed to swim 44 lengths this morning - I don't think I have ever done so much before. Trouble is I am then tired for the rest of the day.

CointreauVersial · 05/11/2015 13:32

I have a dressing up occasion in a couple of week's time - a James Bond themed evening at a casino. It is a company event, so of course I will be "hosting" (i.e. running around with tickets and raffle prizes, shmoozing clients, and fending off colleagues grumbling about taxis home and the price of drinks).....I'm thinking pleather skirt, party top and heels (i.e. Indeterminate Bond Girl Lite), as I don't think a full-length satin gown (or, heaven forbid, a bikini) will be very practical.

Strops - re: your comments about XGF's DM - yes, I think you are right, and that is a much more selfless way of looking at it. You are a better person than I.

Crem - our cleaners are a bit hit and miss, but there are enough hits for me to tolerate them a little longer. DH was moaning at the weekend that they didn't clean the loos properly, and there were "odours", and what was I going to do about it? I handed him a pair of rubber gloves and a cloth. To his credit, he did a fine job.

Hatty - yes, my new tablet is a Christmas present. To me, from me. And I couldn't wait!

bigTillyMint · 05/11/2015 14:08

Grin at CV in a Bond-girl bikini at a ball! My cousins once had a Bond-themed party and there were all sorts of outfits, but DAuntie came as Miss MoneyPenny with Monopoly money pinned all over!

Stropperella · 05/11/2015 14:43

Heh, CV, I'm not the one who has to sit with the xgf's dm and listen to her droning on. Grin

Nigella makes my teeth itch and I cannot watch her at all, whatever she is up to. But I don't actually watch any cooking shows ever. Not even that GBBO. Can't see the appeal at all.

Crem, hope it felt cathartic when you fired the useless cleaner.

I am pleased to report that dd passed her driving theory test today by 3 whole marks and I was able to deposit her back at school for her afternoon lessons after she had happily stuffed her face with M&S maple and pancetta parsnip crisps. Which are the best thing in the world, apparently. Bloody should be at that price. Anyone noticed the outbreak of OTT crisp flavours in M&S? There was some weirdness involving langoustines which I mistakenly bought a month or 2 back and it made me feel bilious for about 2 days. Gack. I don't usually shop in M&S, but it happens that the store in our town is a useful cut-through from the car park to the main shopping street and on my way through I got tempted by over-priced salty snacks.

wordassociationfootball · 05/11/2015 15:27

You can buy bonkersly flavoured crisps it Aldi and ritz it up on the cheap, Stropps Grin

I'm so relieved (for you) about DD's theory test.

I don't understand track changes and I've worked myself into a corner and would love to gorge on crisps.

bigTillyMint · 05/11/2015 15:48

Sooooo pleased/relieved for you and DD about the driving theory test Stropps! The crisps sound yummy too!

NUFC69 · 05/11/2015 16:10

Congratulations to DD, Stropps, that is really good news. I only like ready salted or soured cream and onion crisps, so wouldn't have been tempted. I didn't watch GBBO this year, and I am not that bothered about Strictly this time round - all these people and I don't have much idea who they are.

motherinferior · 05/11/2015 16:13

Wossproblem, WAF? I love track changes. About my only area of technological competence.

I am of course gutted to find I can't fit a laptop into my hand luggage without going over the limit and thus must spend spare time enjoying myself on press jolly fact finding mission.

bigTillyMint · 05/11/2015 16:59

I have no idea what track changes are! I suspect it's jargon for something quite straight-forwardWinkGrin

Stropperella · 05/11/2015 17:11

I use track changes a lot. It messes with my mind. I do not like it much.

WAF, ah yes. The gin and tonic flavour crisps at Aldi. WTF? Grin

Stropperella · 05/11/2015 17:14

ps: I have now tried those maple and pancetta parsnip crisps and agree with dd that they are indeed mighty fine.

Cremo · 05/11/2015 17:26

I have a fondness for the bacon flavour lentil curls in M&s but draw the line at Haggis and Black Pepper with quince jelly. I may have made that up Grin
Nothing wrong with salt and vinegar in my book.

Stropps yay yay yay for dd. WineThanksWineThanksThanksWineThanksWineThanksWineThanksThanksThanksWineWineWine

motherinferior · 05/11/2015 17:30

Switch Track Changes so that you can't see the markup (usually Simple Markup or No Markup). Then it looks normal. I would nip round and help you, WAF, but have to go and sing.

I have new slippers (Next suede dark purple bootie ones). They are neither S nor B. My feet, however, are in toasty bliss.

Cremo · 05/11/2015 17:38

Molly, you will appreciate this. Morecambe ( goat) jumped the fence this afternoon and I had to stop the traffic to recapture her AngryI was wearing dh's coat and my pilates gear, with a big red face. ( classy goat herding outfit) Morecambe then gave me a big kick in the shins for my effort. I have locked her in the goat shed to teach her a lesson, and she's singing loudly in an enraged manner. She's become so naughty. She's only tiny and the fence is 5.5 ft but she can fly over it these days, straight into a busy road. Oh the shame.....Blush
