< weeps copiously at GGG's home truths >

Not really. I do know this, of course. It's just embarrassing when he's really rude in front of other people, and I have no technique to deal with it as it's a new thing. I should have invoked 'get on the booster seat right now or we're going home', but was afraid I'd have to follow through, and really wanted to sit and chat with my friend!

BTW, she's going as 'mutton dressed as lamb.. a little bit Liz McDonald' on Friday, and I assured her she'd be in good company!

bigTillyMint · 21/11/2015 12:49

Lalsy, that's why I moved (and the DC) to another one. DH did not get off his arse to do so. You can get an emergency appointment there on the day if you are prepared to get there at 8am/queue to see if they have any leftAngry It is a crap system.

MrsSchadenfreude · 21/11/2015 13:32

Our GP system is similarly crap - two weeks wait to see any GP, three weeks if you want to see someone who is popular. I am on my third lot of eyedrops now - have worked my way through antibiotic, antihistamine and eye lubrication, and they are still red, sore and sticky. (Having been told by the receptionist to try over the counter remedies first.) I am going to call on Monday and if I can't get an appointment for another three weeks, will go to Moorfields A & E.

I am supposed to be going to Brussels next weekend, post Herbs' Extravaganza, so will try not to have too much to drink...

hattymattie · 21/11/2015 14:02

Gah - just lost a long post.

Mrs S - my house was the same when I got back on Monday - most annoying was the inability to empty the dishwasher and the stacking of dirty dishes on the side - complete laziness.

Herbs - GGG - speaks wisely - you've got it all to come Wink. The hardest is when they obviously still need you but are horrible to you and tell you how you've ruined their life! I loved watching The Secret Life of 5 Year Olds the other day and how the boys didn't resist the chocolate cake.

Rudy - thought Andrew Neil was brilliant and have shown to DH.

bigTillyMint · 21/11/2015 16:57

Hatty, I caught that too - wasn't it fab? I wonder what I would have seen as a fly on the wall if it was my two. I suspect DD would have been something like that slightly annoying girl who cried!

hattymattie · 21/11/2015 17:49

GrinBTM - it's astonishing how manipulative the girls are but I loved how a bird and monster swooped down on the cake!

Have spent the afternoon making gingerbread which will be assembled into houses for the school fete. I feel that I've done my bit - phew!

bigTillyMint · 21/11/2015 18:14

Hatty, when the DC were small, DS took DDs scooter and on return there was a big lump out of the handgrip (which DD was NOT happy aboutWink) DS(who was 3 at the time) told us that a squirrel had come and nibbled it whilst he was playing footyGrin

Had a lovely afternoon catching up with a friend in a cozy cafe and am now watching White Christmas (MrsS, hope you are too!) before DH and DS arrive starving back from footy!

Gingerbread houses sound lovely. I made my own the last couple of years, but got an ikea kit for this year.

motherinferior · 21/11/2015 18:54

I remember DD1 trying to blame the cat for drawings on the walls.Grin

Well, I am chugging back to the smoke somewhat anaesthetised with red wine with school friends. DM in good form - but this was because her blood count couldn't take chemo yesterday (moral: do not let you weight drop to 40 effing kilos). It turns out they are keen on a Mac nurse - phew - and I have also hammered home the importance of getting help immediately in the event of anything untoward.

I also picked up a superb fringed top in the PDSA shop, to be worn with leggings, VPL and knee boots.

motherinferior · 21/11/2015 18:56

And BTM, I would say Moorfields but that is because I write about eyes all the time.

CointreauVersial · 21/11/2015 19:16

I missed the Secret Life of Five Year Olds, but caught the Four Year Olds episode. They were left with a sweet dispenser they weren't supposed to touch, and of course the sweets ended up all over the floor while they shovelled handfuls into their mouths. They all pointed the finger at one girl who admitted turning the button; she in turn said "X told me to do it". X said, "well, yes, I did tell her to do it but she wasn't supposed to listen to me". Grin

A dusting of snow here this morning, but it didn't stick around. DH and DS drove 15 miles to football before getting the call that the match was cancelled.

Wearing a beige knitted Monsoon dress which I picked up at the charity shop for very little, but it's too big, so it has already gone on the eBay pile. Hoping I make the money back...

Lalsy · 21/11/2015 19:48

Dh was very well looked after at Guy's Urgent Care last weekend (minor injury). Seen in under an hour, tests, treatment done within another hour. Maybe that's worth a try tomorrow?Your GP shouldn't be getting away with this - a three week wait is not providing a service to the sick.

bigTillyMint · 21/11/2015 19:51

We are teen - free! Well just for the evening - DDs gone to a party/sleepover and DS has gone round to a matesSmile Sad what makes you happy on a Saturday night!

MI sounds like the visit went well.
CV that sounds v funny - maybe I'll try to find it on catch-up.

CointreauVersial · 21/11/2015 21:44

Talking of long waits for GPs, NDN came round yesterday, limping badly. She was in hospital for several days last year with cellulitis, and was concerned she was developing it again. Couldn't get near a GP, of course, so had had to book a private appointment to get the treatment she clearly needed. So short-sighted....

BeachysFlipFlops · 22/11/2015 07:52

Wow, that's cold this morning. Minus 1 degree here when I nipped out to sort the chickens!

Our GP is fine, you can phone in the morning and see a nurse or book for a doctor. I think it's normally within a week. However, they have a couple of doctors the traditional oldies won't book, so you get them (which is great!)

Had s very detailed chat with a friend yesterday about all things menopausal and peri menopausal. Her tsunamis have been identified as being the result of a fibroid, which she's now working out how to deal with. All harmless but uncomfortable.

About to start a new book 'A Year of living Danishly' before our 48 hour visit to Copenhagen in December.....

Lalsy · 22/11/2015 09:19

Oooh Beachy, I'd love to go to Copenhagen.

I have a fibroid but tsunamis are also a family trait. They were reluctant to remove it years ago because of the risks/where it is - might check that out again if this level of fun continues.

NUFC69 · 22/11/2015 09:30

I, too, would love to go to Denmark - Derbyshire doesn't sound the same somehow.

My worst flooding experience was at a Christmas do at a very posh restaurant, when I got up from the table where I had been sitting on a pale green damask covered chair. I wished the floor would swallow me up. Angry

Pretty miserable here today so I have decided to make some mince pies and then wrap presents (only the ones for the family present swap this week) and write some cards. < polishes halo >

bigTillyMint · 22/11/2015 10:07

BeachyEnvy @ Copenhagen. Will it be very, very cold? Will you need a new coat? I'm sure Herbs could advise youWink

Sympathies to all those with flooding problems - NU that sounds horridly embarrassingFlowers

I have put my Christmas cakes in the oven and am about to make mince pies - friend coming round for coffee later.

I still can't look DH in the eye, but it might be clearing slightly.

NUFC69 · 22/11/2015 10:29

BTM, I so sympathise about looking at DH's eye - eyes are something I am squeamish about. Needless to say I had DC with eye problems, particularly DD who had to have several operations.

Rudy, do you think the person who bought it wanted it for fancy dress or RL?Grin

Would your DM want to go abroad or stay in this country (friends DM is worrying about going to Budapest imminently)?

NUFC69 · 22/11/2015 14:09

Rudy, I think your DM would probably love Bruges, too. I don't know anyone who doesn't. There is masses to see and do, plus lots of interesting shops. We have been a couple of times.

DH has decided to strip the wallpaper off in our bedroom, so now every bedroom has stuff everywhere. He has at least decided that the curtains need replacing, as well as the carpet. I kept on telling them that the sun was rotting them, but he chose not to believe me.....

Sister's family's presents wrapped, now to start on the Christmas cards.

magimedi · 22/11/2015 15:02

Bruges is lovely - and the shops are amazing. It was about 3 years ago I went & I'm no fashonista (!) but I have never seen so many lovely clothes. It's very compact so easy to walk around.

Just going to pack up a few (!) little last moment presents for DS< DIL & PFGC, including the RSC little but fierce T shirt that someone here mentioned ages ago!

NUFC69 · 22/11/2015 16:11

Writing Christmas cards is depressing - I am on the Hs, and I have already crossed off three people who have died! On a lighter note DH has just asked me when he can start delivering cards to our local friends. Hmm

Magi, ah. Enjoy the little one, they grow up so fast.
