When do I start dressing like a grown up?

I am in my early 40s, I have just bought this www.adidas.co.uk/mystic-moon-tee-dress/AA3863.html
I am a size 10 and my figure is okay. I will wear it with leggings though.
Has anyone bought anything they thought might be too young but actually wore it loads and got lots of compliments?

Hah, yes, all the time! I am obsessed with Black Milk Clothing and have loads of their geeky skater dresses. I really hesitated before buying my first one because I thought I was too old for it but I'm forty one now and still get loads of compliments. My overall style is still a bit alternative but I spend a lot more nowadays on dresses and accessories and make up etc than I did back in my teens and twenties so it feels like I am being more grown up, if that makes sense?

To add in with the others though, I'm currently wearing an expect petronum t-shirt. It's in the fashionable slinky style with lower back hemline, but it's still a Harry Potter t-shirt and has the deer on it Not sure why I bought it mind, as it's not something I'd wear out of the house, but couldn't resist! I'll work in it...

i think the trick is that as long as the style suits you it doesn't matter the actual age. It's when dressing young doesn't suit that it all looks a bit 'wrong'. I personally think that when people are descibed as 'stylish' they often wear cool, young, fashionable clothes that suit their bodies and personality. Instead of assumng you should wear this or that at a certain age regardless of what you actually look like in it

Me too Never and Primarni is full of HP stuff, among other things at the moment. I took my 18 year old niece (I'm 33)shopping on Wednesday while my son was at the respite centre. We must've looked a right pair in Primark - we left with matching Expecto Patronum t-shirts, two sets of HP socks (one for her one for ds), she got a Hogwarts dressing gown, Despicable Me fluffy unicorn slippers while I got fluffy Rudolph ones, a Buddy (Elf) t-shirt and Olaf Christmas jumper for ds...

I regularly wear pinafore dress's and i am in my late 40's. I suppose it depends upon how you style the clothes. That dress linked isn't my taste but would look fine with leggings. I wear a cord pinafore with thick tights or leggings boots and a cardi and think it looks quite quirky!

mewkins it's this one from Top Shop. I'm 5'4" and wearing the Petite version. It's quite short on me but I found the regular size one swamped me a bit. It says the model is 5'10" or similar.

A thread involving pinafore dresses!

I love them. Especially cord. My current favourite is a vintage Laura Ashley brown cord one which has a nipped in waist and flared skirt with (my favourite) pockets on the front . I buy mine usually from EBay or charity shops but usually have to take them in or hem them as I'm small. My LA one is just to my knees.

I don't think I dress like a child as such, I just have a particular style that I like - pinafore or shift dresses but I tend to wear them with blouses or fitted tops and always have my pearls on and usually my hair up/dressed

I have just ordered a long indigo denim pinafore dress from EBay and DH said "you do know it's not the 90s anymore and you're not pregnant?"
