this one

safe but boreing maybe?

I am trying to find a dress for my birthday party and it is proving hard.

Need other people's opinions!

Also, I have fallen in love with this dress but would it actually look nice on?

NotTodaySatan · 26/10/2015 09:11

2 and 4 are awful.

1 is ok. A bit different. Think you.
would need to be quite tall and slim to make it work.

3 is pretty but not remarkable.

What age/size/height are you? What's your general style like? What body parts do you like to show off/hide? Budget? Colours that suit you?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 26/10/2015 09:12

Checked one more work than party.
First one in OP is hideous imvho.
Other two fine.

burnishedsilver · 26/10/2015 09:14

I like the 3rd one.

NotExactlyHappyToHelp · 26/10/2015 09:20

Not a big fan of 1 but then I don't like the colour blocking look anyway.

2 is ok but would depend on your skin tone etc. It looks good on the model but would look awful on someone like me who is the palest of the pale.

3 is lovely and I've just bought it after clicking your link. Oops Hmm.

PennyPants · 26/10/2015 09:22

I only like number 2.
It would suit my olive skinned DD. Pinky pale me would avoid that colour.

fitzbilly · 26/10/2015 09:30

It's so hard [sigh]. Ok, so the first one is out. I agree, I don't really like it, was trying to be brave...

I don't know what suits me. I am normal height (5 foot 7) but 'athletic' for want of a better description. Small bust, wide hips, wide shoulers, muscly legs with too big calves. I am not feeling very positive about my body in a dress these days.

Oh, and my feet are huge monstrosities so I am confined to boring shoes so the dress has to work with flat ballet pumps ideally.

And budget it tiny. Hence looking at Asos reduced dresses.

Thanks for the help so far. Can anyone find me others?

Love the black one.

Glitterspy · 26/10/2015 09:38

From how you've described your body shape, I think the black one will look best on you - the shoulder bits will help minimise wide shoulders and the flared skirt will add curves. It'd also look gamine with black ballet flats.

The first two have that sleeveless 'vesty' look which is great for people with tiny petite top halves but (speaking as a broad-shouldered type myself) just make strong shoulders look stronger iyswim.

The last one is not a party dress - day dress material and cut.

jimmybim · 26/10/2015 09:41

this could work with flat shoes

fitzbilly · 26/10/2015 09:46

Thank you glitterspy. Good advice there. Think I will go with the black one.

I do avoid vest tops and strappy tops as it draws attention to my muscles and broad shoulders, not a feminine look at all!

The fourth dress was just for people's opinions, as a work dress, it sems really nice but does it look too much like a dressing gown?

jimmy thank you, but those style dresses make me look fat sadly.

what about this?

OP posts:
NotTodaySatan · 26/10/2015 10:24

That's gorgeous fitz. The nicest one posted yet and would be excellent at giving you a more curvy shape.

Buy it!

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 26/10/2015 10:30

Not too keen on the first one. The second one is gorgeous and by far the nicest. The black one is okay but nothing spesh IMO,

TooMuchRain · 26/10/2015 10:33

I really like the 4th one and am trying to decide what it would like on a 10/12 shape instead of an 8 like the model

fitzbilly · 26/10/2015 12:33

Thank you! Grin

I have bought the fourth one.

TooMushRain I think it would look just as nice on a 10/12

OP posts:
TooMuchRain · 26/10/2015 14:21

ooh - will you post back to say what it's like?

fitzbilly · 26/10/2015 16:21

I will try to remember to!

OP posts:
fitzbilly · 02/11/2015 21:07

TooMuchRain the dress came, I tried it on, and although it is nice, as DH said, it is a bit boring and looks like something I'd wear to work, not a party dress, so it's back to the drawing board for me...

It is nice though, but more of a daytime work dress.

KateSpadeAddict · 02/11/2015 22:23

What about this or is it too short? It would help to give you an hour glass figure, could be lovely with a long necklace.

TooMuchRain · 04/11/2015 21:15

Thanks for coming back! I still can't decide if I can justify a new dress

KateSpadeAddict · 04/11/2015 22:50

It's your birthday Grin

fitzbilly · 05/11/2015 16:59

Katespade I like that dress, I know dh will call it boring as well though, but he has chosen three possible dressed that he likes and ordered them for me to try! We'll see what they're like!

OP posts:
fitzbilly · 05/11/2015 17:01

I just realised that dress is just the black version of the navy one I am sending back Grin

KateSpadeAddict · 05/11/2015 18:55

Oh no! Sorry! Hope you get something Smile
