They look terrible on me, but I went shopping with my mum (she is very stylish, honest!) the other day and she bought some Great Plains ones which looked fab with calf boots and a fitted top.

Have tried on a few pairs but they are 'still in the shop'. It's all in the cut and fabric and what you want to look like in them. Cos had a number. One www.cosstores.com/se/Women/Trousers/Wide_melange_trousers/46887-34215447.1#c-22755 made my top half look comparatively skinny as they looked elephantine. A look 'enhanced' by their elephant grey colour. Another pair had an elasticated waist and the fabric was too thin for my liking.
So, in answer to your question, yes, I'm looking, but I haven't found The Pair yet.

Culottes are surprisingly good for me (pear shaped 10-12), I think because the wide leg distracts from my thighs, but my relatively slim ankles are still visible. I bought a navy pair with front slits from Zara for £5.99 in the sale, they were great until it started to get cooler.

Then found a grey pair in Other Stories made from quite heavy cotton jersey, and they are so cosy to wear. I wear them with flats/chelsea boots and I think that looks alright, the structure makes them more smart than slobby. Can't find them online but they were in the sale too.

I'd quite like a wool pair, possibly pinstripe charcoal, for work...

I tried on a pair from Gap on the back of a thread here. Am also pear shaped. Really like them. Had to buy them o'course. Am struggling a bit with leg and footwear tho. Am also struggling with the fact that I wore them first time round and remember the hideous-ness of them once they passed their fashion-hour. Grin See how fickle I am fashion is.

Here they are, on sale too

lurkingabit · 24/10/2015 15:26

Oh yes, was in Cos yesterday, and they have a few. Didn't try any on, but they looked really good, felt like wool.

Hey lurking, I followed your Gap link and ended up buying a pair of denim culottes in the sale. Did you try them? I'm getting bored of skinnies so hoping these will be a good option.

mayum1 · 24/10/2015 21:24

maybemyrtle - read an article that they're supposed to flatter pear-shaped. I'm inverted triangle so I'm wary but I find them really cool. I see them all the time worn by Japanese tourists/women.

Yes maybem, I did try and I did like. Flattering. Maybe it's true - they flatter pears. More to the point, les enfants like them, as does the H. Not that they know anything, but they're not fettered by fickle fashion so I believe them (making perfect sense tonight aren't I??)

fiorentina · 24/10/2015 22:14

I'm pear shaped and have two pairs. In Autumn I'm wearing with black tights and ankle or knee length boots and a fitted top or polo neck. I've had lots of compliments although the guys in the office seem bemused by them..
