Land's End long commuter coat quandary

Mine arrived today but I'm not sure I like it enough. Is it really warm enough that I will happily forego style for substance when winter hits? I spend a fair amount of time in cold sea breezes in winter and my knees suffer if they are cold. I hate being cold. I feel cold easily, too...

I pulled in the drawstring but I still look massive (I'm a 10-12 so got a small).

Argh. What to do, oh style mavens?

Which colour is it? It's better, I think, in the darker colours.

I like the smoky plum, and the black's fine too.

Dark wine is getting iffy, and toast seems frumpy to me.

I got smoky plum. Nice colour, but it seems so bulky...

Do you mean the big down coats? If so they really are very, very much warmer than any wool coats. Mine might look huge but it made winter commuting bearable last year, had been miserable the year before. struggled to take it off when spring came! Could wear thin blouses under it and still be warm so saved money on winter work clothes too!

SuckingEggs · 23/10/2015 20:26

OK, I've pulled the drawstring and channelled myself in deepest winter wearing it –I think it's going to be a winner Grin

Duck, that's what I'm hoping - to not have to wear loads underneath the coat. It's about time I had a coat that will allow me to stay glam beneath the outer layer. Otherwise, I have always ended up with a thick cardigan over thinner (nice) top. It would be good to be able to dispense with a layer.

I have recently bought one.

I am happy with it - mine is for wearing to watch football/rugby/walks in woods with my DC

SuckingEggs · 23/10/2015 22:31

Cece, I'll use mine for walks, too, and when I'm by the sea. It sounds like it'll be perfect.

Just reporting back. I wore it to DC football practice yesterday morning and to the woods with some friends in the afternoon.

At football it was much admired by the other mums, who all were googling it, and a couple of them asked me if I minded if they bought one. Grin

At the woods my friends also admired it and one muttered about how she needed a new coat. Grin

I can confirm that there are lots of useful pockets.

Is this the one currently on sale and with the added discount comes in at £80-something? I've been wanting a coat so this thread prompted me to Google. It looks like the same coat is both in the sale at this discount and again in the non sale at full price (although I guess the discount would still apply).

cece · 25/10/2015 08:10

I think there is an extra discount this weekend. And yes I bought mine with a similar discount for that price. It is the long one - that comes below the knee (well it does on me).

orlakielyimnot · 25/10/2015 08:27

It's confusing because it certainly looks like the same coat but nearly half price. Surely their own website wouldn't offer the same coat at 2 different prices. Maybe they want to sell a section/portion of the stock for some reason.

SuckingEggs · 25/10/2015 11:35

Great to hear it's much admired! Sounds like I'll grow to love this coat.

I got mine for 25% off the sale price. Amazing value.

I have a couple of LE down coats. In my longer one, I can walk to the office in Finland when its -14'C and windy with just my normal work dress underneath which is fabulous. They might be a bit bulky, but the cosiness is wonderful

Libitina · 25/10/2015 12:45

Thanks for making me spend yet more money ladies!
Just ordered the shorter version for £63 instead of £170 in the sale and used the 25% off code too.
Will be toasty this winter.

SuckingEggs · 26/10/2015 10:10

All sold out. Looks like the MN LE posse are going to be warm this winter Grin

The full price ones are still available though.

Update to say they have them back in stock in the sale.
