Strong chemical smell from cheap shoes

Bought cheap shoes but they have a horrendous chemical smell. Any idea how to get rid of it?

mavbe baking soda sprinkled inside? I do that with sweaty sneakers and boots and it seems to work. Not sure about a chemical smell tho. Had thay in a cheap pair of leggings and it took dozens of washings to get rid of.
