foundation for freckles

Right theres another foundation thread at the moment but I didn't want to hijack it! Hopefully you ladies ( ) can advise on two threads...

I have quite freckly cheeks, of the Orange blotchy type. Im finally ok with them and have realised I look odd when I cover them too much. I really struggle with 2 things though - what shade of foundation to get as im really pale but have a bit of a ruddy looking face, and also coverage because sheer foundations which let my freckles through also show up my blemishes and acne scarring.

Almost all concealer looks cakey on me until I blend it to the point that my scarring is visible again!

My local dept store isnt great either. I went to the estee lauder counter in the summer and she just kept telling me to stay out of the Sun as if it would cure the freckles I'd had from 4, and then put a really orange foundation on which I had to wash off in the toilets straight after.

Im in my 20s and find anything too matte looks weird on me.

I'm obviously no foundation expert but have you tried mineral foundation or BB/CC creams at all?

There is a youtuber I watch with freckles and red hair. She uses a No 7 foundation with a pump where the platform at the base moves up. Anyway it looks flawless on her so worth a trip there to test?

I tried lily Lolo shoulder but didn't like the finish and struggled to get a good colour match. The others have scared me off because I've heard they can cause breakouts!

Try no7 intelligent colour foundation in light. It looks dark but melts into skin leaving a light veil of colour almost like a tint. I'm a redhead with freckles and this is fine for me. Hope that helps.

I use a clinique one, Beyond Perfecting, and it does what I think you're after. Evens my skin and covers freckles without giving me that weird mannequin look. It's quite expensive, £25 a bottle, but if you go to a clinique counter they'll give you a little tester pot to take away which should last a couple of weeks and give you a chance to see if it's working for you.

Anyway her channel is called something like Relaxing Whispers ASMR (don't judge - I found it by accident looking for glossybox reviews and was a little bit fascinated).

What you need, I think, is foundation that evens up your complexion (lots of recommendations for pale skin on the other thread) plus a good concealer for your acne scars. Like you, I have freckles (and now even age spots, yikes...).But I don't try to hide my freckles, if I do I just look unnatural. The best non-cakey concealer I have found is a Nars product called Radiant Creamy Concealer (I use shade Vanilla). I use the YSL Fusion Ink foundation first (perfect shade for me is B 10), then the Nars concealer where I need it, and then "set" the products with a bit of the BD Trade Secrets powder foundation from Tesco (bargain!) in shade Shell.

Do get samples of the foundation - really the only way to test the colour and finish. YSL and Estee Lauder have always given out good samples, and then you can really see what works for you.

Thanks everyone. Will try the clinique and ysl ones initially as I'd like samples. Don't mind shelling out if it means getting a good match. Getting a bit sick of buying high street brands that don't match :( will be a few days before I can go to the counters ill keep you posted!

I'm not an expert but you sound like me and I use Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation. It has good coverage for my redness, acne scarring, freckles and is available in the very light shades I need for my pale colouring. It also lasts really well (with primer).

I blend different shades to get the best match depending on the time of year (half and half 00/0 in the winter, but I think you may not be able to buy 00 in the UK anymore).

I have pale skin and freckles and use Boots No 7 Intelligent Colour too. It is the only thing that gives a natural match.
