What to wear with sequin skirt?

Westielove · 17/10/2015 21:58

I recently bought this sequin skirt, but I am stuck on what to wear with it. With the weather getting colder I will probably wear it with black tights and black shoes, but I am not sure about what tops.

If anyone has any suggestions for both dressing it up and down, I would very much appreciate it! Smile

I think with a skirt like that the top should always be pretty low key. A plain white t-shirt for example.

Paired with anything glitzy you'd run the risk of looking like a magician's assistant.

For dressing it down I think it’d look great with this kind of jumper:

It is similar to the one the model is wearing in the skirt image but I quite like that look.

And for dressing it up as you plan on wearing with black tights I think you could get away with a black t-shirt that is tucked into it? Probably quite a tight one with either a scoop or v-neck depending on your shape Smile

Thank you both Smile

i had a blue sequin skirt once. Drove me nuts

Floisme · 18/10/2015 22:43

I have a similar skirt only it's knee length, high waisted and pencil shape, Ok maybe not that similar but very sequinny! I've only ever worn it dressed down with either a cropped dark blue jumper or a grey sweatshirt plus grey opaques and flat ankle boots.

Cerseirys · 18/10/2015 22:51

I would go for black opaque tights with either black heels or heeled ankle boots and just a plain black vest on top, so that the skirt can really stand out. Mind you, if you were planning on wearing it for a night out then you wouldn't want to go somewhere wear you were sat down at a table all night as then nobody would be able to see the skirt!

Floisme · 19/10/2015 09:40

Cerseiryss point is a good one. I wouldn't wear mine out to a nice meal because all people would see would be the sweatshirt. So I keep it more for daytime wear but then it can feel a bit full on. So I don't think they're that versatile really but I paid a tenner for mine so I don't mind too much!

But if you are out for drinks/standing at bars then it is fab Smile

Westielove · 20/10/2015 13:48

I really like the sweatshirt idea Smile I've also been considering pairing it with a denim shirt and Chelsea boots during the day.

Good point about wearing it somewhere I'll be sat down, I hadn't thought of that.

Thank you all for helping!

I've got a sequinned mini skirt in my online M&S shopping basket at the moment and was having exactly that dilemma! I like the look of the jumper with it but that's no good for dancing. I'll be roasting. In my head I can picture a simple sleeveless top. But not too tight to show off lumps & bumps. Good point about sitting down but it could be dressed up with jewellery. Just need to find that top.

I have a couple of "statement skirts" (a-line, just above knee-length, pretty fancy in terms of print) and wear them with black opaques, flat Chelsea boots and a plain crew-neck jumper. I have a slightly cropped black Whistles jumper which is just perfect and am on the hunt for a turtleneck too.

EmmaWoodlouse · 20/10/2015 16:32

Very nice skirt - I'd wear it (if I had the body for it) with a plain black scoop-necked top, or possibly a big black jumper a bit like the model in the picture. Leather or denim jacket on top. I think I'd wear it with boots rather than shoes.

Phoenix0x0 · 20/10/2015 17:00

Depends upon if you are wearing this in the day or evening.

Day: polo neck, plain coloured collored shirt/blouse (pussybow blouses are cool), long sleeve t-shirt.

Night: blouse, plain Bardot top...

Hah, I was looking at that exact skirt a few weeks ago in H&M but given that I hardly ever go out, I decided it wasn't a wise purchase!

I

If it helps, I've just ordered this www.next.co.uk/x6d72s8#385646x56 to wear with silver sequin skirt - this one direct.asda.com/george/womens/skirts/sequin-skirt/G005204110,default,pd.html. Going to look for an oversized v-neck black jerseys as well, in a fine silky knit if such a thing exists, and I'll wear all with thick black tights/footless tights and flat pumps. Or maybe with boots if it's cold/wet-any excuse to wear these really -www.schuh.co.uk/womens/rocket-dog-thunder-black-boots/1470317060/
