Very warm, waterproof coat suggestions

Rugby season is upon us. I now spend about 6 hours a week huddled outside watching various football and rugby matches.

I need a super-warm coat that is waterproof or at least water resistant, and hopefully, cute. I've resisted Barbour thus far but would be happy to take someone's tips on their warmest model.

I quite like the army green parka thing that everyone seems to be wearing these days, but... everyone is wearing it these days.

Suggestions much appreciated.

Budget is flexible.

Totally uncool and possibly a mum coat but my waterproof thick one with hood and covering my bum from Land's End catalogue v good

Didriksons Angelina - seriously waterproof and warm. I bought mine last year and love it.

I have got a North Face Arctic parka too but this one is much more comfortable to wear and feels like it will be more waterproof in the long term.

Last year I bought a Marmot Chelsea. Fabulous. Very warm, longer length and waterproof.
Reduced on Go Outdoors at the mo.

I've got a Patagonia Duete Parka but only because I was able to get it for half price.

I wouldn't / couldn't pay full price for it. It is fully waterproof though and has a duck down lining. Great hood too.

Definitely the lands end. Mine is plain black. After lots of years at pitch side in not overly fussed about being 'on trend' I'd rather be warm and dry and not found one that does the job as well as the lands end squall (I think it's called) that and sheepskin liners for my wellies.

Mountain Warehouse has a very good sale on. This one or this one look like they would do the job.

If you are petite or not tall you might find the scandi brands such as Didrikson too long on the body and arms. I tried the North Face Arctic Parka but it was too long/bulky on me. The Jack Wolfskin 5th Avenue is a much nicer coat in real life than in any of the pictures, I've got the navy blue one. I tried a Marmot Chelsea last year and it was lovely but a bit too long for me. The Merrell Ellenwood (I think that's what it's called) is mega popular but it didn't do anything for me when I tried it on. I used to have a Merrell Haven which is a waterproof wool duffel coat and it was fab??. Really pleased with my Jack Wolfskin though, totally waterproof and very warm but not that rustle material that so many technical coats have. it was £200 in the Cotswold shop last year but I bought it from an online independent retailer for about £140.

I've just bought a long coat (past my kneed) from Lands End. I have only worn it once in a heavy downpour on the school run and it was certainly waterproof. I was also very warm - it was a warm day and I was too hot in it. I too have to stand for hours at rugby festivals and I bought it for this very reason. I also managed to buy some North Face boots in TK Maxx yesterday.

I've got a Woolrich arctic parka. It was very expensive but it's sooooooo very warm and I'll get years and years of wear out of it

I've a North Face Brooklyn which is waterproof and super warm but quite stylish and perfect for footy watching. I have to say that I only use it for general wear when it's extra cold but I do like it a lot

Didriksons all the way....... If you go to their website they rate their coats by warmth and waterproofness... Bought one two years ago and love love love it

My north face parka is amazing. It has an inside skin you can take out if it's not too cold. Nothing beats it.

didriksons and northface are good, but also have a look in outdoor stores. this regatta one looks nice too

I've got a Canada Goose Kensington - got it in the sale in the summer, but still bloody expensive.

Arcteryx might be a good option. Still very pricey though.

Didrikson is good. I have a long shell coat (so not at all warm) and it has kept me bone dry in torrential rain. Pre-Canada Goose, I used to put a Uniqlo down jacket underneath it. It was a short one, so it didn't quite cut it, but a long one might work. (But then, you are buying 2 coats, which seems a bit pointless really....)

My North Face jacket is brilliant.

Waterproof and comes with very warm fleece lining you can remove for warmer weather.

FWIW I looked at Merrell, Didrikson, Wolfskin etc. Loads. I am extremely hippy and quite generously norked! I wanted something I could try on and ensure I could fit layers under it if necessary. I'm also nearly 5ft 8. I wanted a proper bum covering coat! If I wear the Marmot and my long Ariat wellies I'm totally warm and dry!

I am impatiently waiting for it to get cold enough to wear my new winter coat - Didriksons Mary.

I spent ages researching different coats. I really fancied a Didrikson but couldn't find them anywhere in a store so I could actually try one on!

I love my Didrikson Karen. I'm only 5ft4 and don't find it too long on sleeves. It is so cozy I'm still getting away with just a t-shirt under it. Only downside is... It's so waterproof that all water slides off and my legs get soaked!

That's why I got a longer one Annecy. I have another waterproof coat and the first time I wore it I ended up with soaking wet legs.
