Winter Wardrobe? Help!

cjt110 · 15/10/2015 15:21

I am going to have a clear out tonight and sort and pack away my summer clothes and dig out my winter clothes.

What are your staple winter items? I am feeling an urge to purge and maybe buy some new bits too! I am trying to be a bit more stylish rather than just go for the and old bits and bats I always wear and any help is appreciated :)

My Autumn wardrobe staples I've purchased have been

Burgundy skinny jeans
Dark denim skinny jeans
Thick black leggings
Burgundy cable rights
Grey cable tights
Two pairs of tartan style leggings/trousers
Poncho
Black ankle boots
Black jumper dress
Tartan shirt dress

I also have
Green long cardi
Purple long cardi
Orange long cardi
Black long Cardi
Variety of colours of cotton long sleeved tops.

I feel like I have enough to mix and match but I've done a massive wardrobe purge and can multi purpose most items.

Lol it soubds like loads written down. I thought I'd gone minimal haha but clearly not oops. Also on the hunt for brown boots!

justaweeone · 15/10/2015 19:28

Scatty, please can you give me an idea where you purchased these lovely sounds items!

Scattymum101 · 15/10/2015 19:37

Most was New Look lol. I find their clothes fit me really well.
I get a lot of second hand in eBay too as I'm on mat leave and can't afford to buy a lot new but I don't have a casual Autumn wardrobe as I'm usually working in Autumn so most is work wear.

My long cardis are phase 8 and Wallis I think and just primark for long sleeved stretchy tops to wear under cardigans with boots and funky scarves.

Also have some lovely jumpers from m&s that my mum bought me a few years ago for Xmas.

Autumn/winter is my favourite season for clothes as I love snuggly knitwear. I think I need another purge mind you after reading that list Blush

I live in my skinny jeans-I've got navy, grey, burgundy and dark blue.

Slouchy jumpers in navy, grey and striped .

Brown boots and black high tops.

Leather jacket, warm Parker and I'm going to buy a smart wool coat-I'm thinking in a camel colour.

I've just bought a lovely thick wool scarf from new look,it's grey, burgundy, navy and camel so I think I'll get loads of wear out of it.

Scattymum101 · 15/10/2015 20:23

Oh I forgot a parka!!! I'm actually smaller now after kids than I was before and my parka still zipped up til I was 38 weeks pregnant last winter so I really need a new one haha.

I had a HUUUUUUGE purge last night from my wardrobe/drawers/ikea unit.... 2 bin bags full that went in the bin, a huge Sainsburys bag and a carrier bag for charity. Decided I could do with one or two pairs of skinny jeans as I only really have 1 that fit me and maybe a jumper dress, some leggings and plain tops. I have 10 jumpers Shock (although 5 of them are more work attire than to wear out and about)

I've just spent a bit of money on my A/W wardrobe.

Leather A line mini (surprisingly versatile)
Cropped jumpers (go great with ^this^)
Black skinnies
Burgundy skinnies
Vintage wash blue skinnies
3/4 sleeve loose tops
Slouchy fine knits
Lots of grey t-shirts/tops some embellished
Oversized check shirts
Check shirt dress (to wear with opaques and bikers)
A few jumper dresses
A sequin cami top I saw linked to on here from H&M (will wear with the leather skirt).
Faux fur coats (have 5 - collected over the years. Different colours so go with different outfits).
Shoes - black bikers, maroon cut out heeled boots, black low heel ankle boots with leopard section at back, black high heel ankle boots. I also have a pair of oxblood patent heeled brogues which are fab at this time of year. Oh and my pewter Hamble Oaks which are amazing Grin.

It really depends on your body architecture, lifestyle and taste.

A working mum will have a different wardrobe to a stay at home mum.

I would aim for the following 'outside work' staples:

  • jeans in a couple of colours
  • winter boots - ankle and long
  • flats (converse or ballet pumps depending on style)
  • sports luxe trousers
  • a couple of long sleeved T-shirts
  • a couple of thin knit jumpers
  • chunky jumpers
  • nice coat
  • parker
  • hat, gloves, scarf
  • dress that can be casual or dressed up as required

Then you can add a few fashiony pieces as you find them, so long cardi, sleeveless coat or coatigan, shearling/fur coat, fun shirts for layering. Accessories can drastically change your outfits too and are an easy way to make a nod to current trends without breaking the bank.

Skinny blue and black jeans
Thick leggings
Leather jeggings
Coated black jeans
Tube skirt
Shirt dress x 2
Long shirt
Thick tights
Jumpers- slouchy and cropped
Cardies
Vests/t-shirts for layers
Parker
Leather biker jacket
Flying jacket
Uggs
Ankle boots and knee length boots
Gloves
Plus a few going out tops

Lots of skirts and opaques....ersey stretch ones, shorter skater ones; just boughtvtwo pinafore type dresses which I will wear with long sleeve tshirt under and a long cardigan over. Knee high socks to wear under the boots. Some tunic type dresses, black skinny jeans and checked shirts. Oh a variety of jumpers and cardigans gathered over the years. I rarely do cashmere though. I find it stifling. Oh and boots of every description.
