Help with wedding 'dress' - clueless

namaste99 · 13/10/2015 12:45

As it says really. In my 50's, short, dumpy. Usual attire bootcut jeans and skater type dress cos they're long and I make sure they're made of cotton. To complicate matters I can't wear shoes because of neuropathy so summer it's crocs and winter it's crocs boots :) I'm getting married in January and have no idea what to wear. If I could, I'd wear my usual but I gather that's not the done thing! TBH, OH will probably be smart/casual ie shirt instead of t-shirt, he'll still wear his DM's and black jeans I guess. Maybe I should embrace our old hippy look as a theme :) Any ideas?

Hi, give us more of a clue! What size and height are you, and do you have big boobs?

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 13/10/2015 13:02

A friend of mine didn't suit a traditional western wedding dress either, so she got married in a silk salwar kameez outfit instead, a bit like this (the shirt bit might have been longer). They are available in lots of colours, obviously, including cream and white if you wanted to stick to traditional colours.

Would this sort of thing work for you? Friend also wore DMs on her feet, with gold laces.

5' 1", size 16 - only one not very big boob but I'll wear my falsie :) My problem is more that I'm broad, horrible legs and since I had treatment my hair won't grow properly so it's stuck short and wavy. Plus, I can't wear make up and my eyebrows won't grow back.

I'm lovely really...... just not 'feminine'.

That looks very pretty Thumbswitch, not sure what I'd wear on my feet tho!

If you had a large enough long enough skirt to a dress you could wear any footwear Iv seen uggs and trainers done (pretty white ones)

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 13/10/2015 13:53

Could you manage these croc shoes? posts.mode.com/sponsored-post-look-comfortably-chic-in-crocs/

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 13/10/2015 13:55

Or yes, there are always Uggs - they come in all sorts of styles now, with bling and everything if that's what you want! Fur, feathers, you name it.

Phase eight have so lovely floor length dresses. What colour do you think?

hairbrushbedhair · 13/10/2015 14:12

I think I would probably go for a woodland festival type wedding dress think maid Marian??

You could have a dress made exactly how you want and fit right in with the hippy theme

Wedding boots

Dress
Comfortable, if not very flattering dress

What colour do you want for your dress? At 50 you can say no to white

namaste99 · 13/10/2015 17:23

Ha, definitely slug.... we have 6 kids between us! Dress colours, I was thinking greens and/or burgundys. You've all given me some great ideas to start off with.......

Hope the link works, I was thinking something like this is beautiful?

And in January you could have a cape too! Jealous Wink

Narp · 13/10/2015 18:47

What's your budget?

Narp · 13/10/2015 19:03

I think some sort of silk coat/tunic over trousers would be lovely, especially in those jewel colours. I will try and find the sort of thing I mean

namaste99 · 13/10/2015 20:15

That's certainly beautiful hairbrushbedhair, but just a bit over the top for me. I'm a very casual (scruffy) dresser usually so not sure I'll be comfortable going really dressy. Silk coat/tunic over trousers sounds like a possibility. And I forgot to mention, it's a January wedding in Scotland :)

Budget? Not going over the top.... I guess £250 max for whole outfit?
