sea salt Bretons

I need to get a couple of replacements for Breton tops that have started to go saggy. I ordered one from Boden but have sent it back as it was too thin and clingy on the arms - I want a heavier weight cotton but fitted, not boxy. How's the fit and weight of the Seasalt sailor tops?

They are slightly heavier cotton than Boden but not much. Sleeves are very long but not clingy. True to size.

Have you seen Joules bretons? They use a much thicker cotton than most other brands.

Sandgroper · 12/10/2015 13:39

Hi

I second the Joules Breton, much thicker fabric but far better quality to my boden one from last year (very thin material and disappointing). True to size as well.

The only thing I don't like about it is the logo on the back (at the base of your neck if that makes sense) and another small one on the arm just for good measure, only a small thing and I would get another one. Washes well too.

BoogleMcGroogle · 12/10/2015 14:21

Hi, I'm also after a Breton. Can I ask about Joules sizing? I'm between a 10 and 12 in Boden. Does Joules come up big? When I've seem them on they have looked a little baggier in the cut (although this looks nice, I think).

TheGirlOnTheLanding · 12/10/2015 16:39

Thanks, Stripy and Sand, never thought to look in Joules. We've got a bricks and mortar branch nearby, I will check them out.

I have several joules Britons from the outlet shop (so could be slight seconds I guess) and would say they come up on the larger side, but I think that is partly the fit.

Silvertap · 12/10/2015 17:57

I'm another fan of the joules ones. I wear the Boden ones in the summer & joules in the spring/Autumn

NattyGolfJerkin · 12/10/2015 18:00

Generally I find joules to be on the generous side anyway

PetiteBateau · 12/10/2015 18:36

The logo really puts me off anything from joules

amazonianwoman · 12/10/2015 18:48

The Seasalt ones are much better quality cotton than the Boden ones. I have 2 which I've worn to death for at least 4 summers, still going strong.

stripytees · 12/10/2015 19:26

Seasalt did a thicker cotton version in long and short sleeve shirts some years ago but they are not all like that. I would agree the quality is better than Boden.

I have a bit of a special interest in striped tops, as you might guess from my name. Wink

Anothe Joules lover hereWink

NattyGolfJerkin · 12/10/2015 20:33

Funny to see petite bateau here but the ones from petit bateau are always recommended on s&b as a heavier quality Breton. Quite ££ though at £58 a pop.

I love the Joules too! Brilliant quality.

You can remove the arm logo quite easily with a pair of sharp scissors and a steady hand. Just pick the stitches around the edge off, it doesn't leave a mark. Just resign yourself to the small wanky bunny at the base of the neck.

HelicopterDick · 12/10/2015 20:37

Also Uniqlo do amazing thick ones too, almost on a par with Joules I would say and nicer colours (they were last year anyway).

Lovewearingjeans · 12/10/2015 20:52

I rate the SeaSalt ones. They are true to size and flattering for bigger norks (I'm 32f).

drLu · 13/10/2015 20:37

Joules here! Great quality and wash really well. Great price too for the quality.

WhoTheFuckIsSimon · 13/10/2015 20:40

Seasalt was better quality a few years ago than what it is now. I reckon they've hot thinner. I have a lovely one a few years old, sent one back last year.

mewkins · 13/10/2015 20:47

I like the quality of seasalt but their bretons don't sit right on my shoulders weirdly. I like the longer line boden ones. The joules are too thick for me.

Dancergirl · 13/10/2015 22:29

I've always bought Boden ones but might try joules this time. I love the ruby stripe but it's sold out in all sizes Sad

NotQuitePerfect · 14/10/2015 07:58

Defiantly the Joules ones now that we are going into Autmn. I have 3 and wore them constantly in the Spring - now they're out again in force. Quality is amazing, far superior to the Boden ones.

NotQuitePerfect · 14/10/2015 07:59

definitely even Blush

Nowabruptly · 14/10/2015 17:48

I like the Boden ones purely because they do longer length tops, which is so rare. But they are a bit thin for the winter. Do any of the other tops mentioned here come in longer lengths does anyone know? Or any other brands? Thanks!

Sleepyfergus · 14/10/2015 23:43

Another joules Breton fan here - lovely quality and fantastic for the price. I actually like the bunny logo! I might remove the arm label though now that I know it doesn't leave a mark size wise I think they are a shade on the large size but I find they shrink the tiniest bit after a few washes so they are pretty much spot on.

I find the boden ones also thin and poor quality compared to joules.

AlfAlf · 15/10/2015 00:32

I'm not all that keen on Joules usually, but must concede that my Joules Breton is my fave.

I have a short-sleeved striped sailor t from seasalt that I love too, but it's more for summer.
