Oh, Rose. You poor love.

bigTillyMint · 29/10/2015 11:17

Stropps, it could be something to do with the intermittent signal here? Hope your jobs, etc get confirmed asap.

Yes, Cremo, how is your back you por thing? Here I am dying for a coffee but DD appears to be still sleeping. Loudly. WIBU to put the coffee machine on?!

wordassociationfootball · 29/10/2015 11:47

BTM Get your coffee!!!

Crem, ay ay yi - your back. I send it healing vibes and am so sorry. What a crock of shite.

Beachy - I think meat and sausage platters all round if you have too many randoms.

Strops your platter sounds full of uncertainty (which is probably not much more healthy than sausage)

This IS lunchtime btw, was up early. I haven't shopped or cooked or cleaned in days. the middle one is being provided by DH. The last one actually no one's done for a couple of weeks. I am taking them all to Martian this afternoon as a thank you for allowing me to disappear for many hours a day to write even while we were at MIL and DIL's.

bigTillyMint · 29/10/2015 12:10

Had my coffee and semi packed! Off to central park shortly. In the sun!!!

cressetmama · 29/10/2015 13:37

Flowers for Rose. I am dreading this happening with DMiL. It's only a matter of time.

Very quiet half term here. DS has had nasty cold and been very congested but has done some character animation drawings... better than I might have dreamed. DH is busy and bothered by work issues. The Cressethound has decided she wants to be a deer and flies through the undergrowth chasing them. I do not have the heart to tell her that this time next week she will be wearing the collar of shame and on a lead for 10 days.

herbaceous · 29/10/2015 14:47

Two encounters with new work today.

1 good. Training about the whole 'prevent'agenda, etc. while this was not thrilling, it gave me the chance to meet lots of colleagues, who were all lovely and supportive.

2 bad. Before training I had to meet HR with all my pre employment papers and checks. I decided to be Mrs Nice and was super helpful. Then Irritating Jobsworth said 'are you qualified to teach? Can you prove it?' This was the first mention of needing to show my pgce certificate, and I said that I hadn't got it, as it hadn't been issued yet, but that I could find some correspondence at home that confirmed that I'd passed. 'Well that's not really good enough, is it,' he shouted. 'Its my job you're qualified to teach, and you're unable to do so.' And further words to that effect. I lost my temper and said I thought he was being very rude, and that if he'd wanted me to being in my proof of qualification they could have asked me before now.

Rosebag · 29/10/2015 15:37

utter Shock herbs Just tell the arse to phone the university if he doesn't believe you.

crem how is the pain today? It's so often stress that sets off a chronic back problem. You poor thing.

Thanks all. dD and I are having an afternoon at the salon, getting hair done etc. DBro called and said DDad was more awake and taking a little food. The plan is to get him back to the home as soon as poss. It's just unfortunate that they can't administer stuff IV. The hospital doctors seem ok so far. Haven't heard from DM at all. It's all so wearing and all the decision making is such a tough call. Who knows if what you do is The Right Thing or not? DH is supposed to be away this weekend when I get back. dd is in rehearsals all afternoon on Saturday and wants to go to a Halloween party with friends after. Dunno how I'm going to manage all that if I need to get to a hospital in town. Hmm

bigTillyMint · 29/10/2015 15:49

Herbs, that's terrible! What kind of a job does he have to talk to people like that?

Rose that does sound full - on. Could your DD manage to go on her own or with friends?

We have just spent the morning in Central Park and then Grand Central station. Sadly I didn't check opening times for the Met museum of modern art but we wouldn't have had time anyway. It is a beautiful autumn day and I don't want to leave NYC! Got to check out when DD is ready and then go down to Katz deli (where Harry met Sally!) Then the Tenement Museum tourSmile

Lalsy · 29/10/2015 15:49

Oh Rose, I am sorry Flowers. I think one doesn't always know what the right thing to do is....

Herbs, outrageous - and unnecessary and incompetent. When I got checked for my volunteering, they sent me loads of emails telling me what docs they needed and when and when I would get them back. He sounds like an arse.

motherinferior · 29/10/2015 16:32

Rose, agree with trying to see if DD can go with friends - also fling yourself on the mercy of your own friends. Most people are v supportive at times like this - I'm sure someone would transport DD, given I'm also quite sure you are fab to others in crisis...Thanks

Cremo · 29/10/2015 16:43

Oh Rose, love. My dm was exactly the same when ddad had his breathing/heart probs last year. She would not hear hear of help in any form and played the complete martyr until my sister who is braver than me, and a bit medical ,argued her down into submission and let me do visiting and making of dinner and the whole time made it clear she didn't enjoy being told what to do and poked food about her plate and pouted like a toddler. Stay where you are this evening. It sounds like your brother is "on it" anyway. If it means anything at all, we all know how much you care and worry, and I think that's enough for anyone.

BTM and BD make the very most of the last few hours. Consolation is that it is not raining here.
BD we laughed a great deal at the polythene wellies for tourists. WAF Aqua alta is when the islands
Of Venice become semi submerged in the lagoon and it gets a bit floody. You have to walk on platforms raised above the cobbles which can be slow going.

herbs , all the sympathy in the world for admin malfunctions. Not fair or acceptable at all.glad colleagues seem q naice thoughHmm

MI and WAF , I know you are both working very hard. Thanks

NU -bloody hell, nightmare. As well it didn't happen in the middle of the night.

My back is truly bolloxed again. Had to turn up at physio dept this morning and beg for traction, which has helped a wee bit, although the receptionist did her best to get rid of me.
Have been told to rest, avoid stress, keep calm, do the exercises, etc.
Everyone will be delighted to hear I've been signed off work! I sent my form in for redeployment, just to get on to the list, lest anything reasonable pops up. Back feeling remarkably less tight since either
A) traction
B) no work tomorrow

Stropperella · 29/10/2015 17:09

Hmm, not seeing half the thread on my main computer. I wondered why WAF was talking to Beachy this morning about sausages. Now I'm on my phone and I can see why. Grin

NUFC69 · 29/10/2015 17:11

Oh Crem, so sorry that your back is bad again (and never under estimate the relief of not having to do something you were dreading). How long have they said you need to be off? 'Till you're 65, do you think?

DS and DDiL have the builders coming in after the New Year to do major remodelling so they have just been living with some difficult things since they moved in in January; however DDiL was going to get a spare key cut today to hide in the utility room. I dread to think how it could have all panned out.

BTM, how have you fitted it all in? Safe journey home.

Rose, thinking about you. I am sure someone will help you out.

herbaceous · 29/10/2015 17:47

Sorry to have gone on to a rant about trivia when there's so much horridness around. Rose - I'm with MI. Time to fall upon the mercy of friends. People do like to be able to help, so will rally round.

Crem - odd that your back should get better, just as you get signed off from work! I foresee a relapse in about a fortnight's time that will need further time with Sister.

hattymattie · 29/10/2015 19:10

Crem - maybe there is a stress related element to your back - clenching muscles and such like.

Rose - sending love and strength.

NU - similar happened to me - I got locked in a bathroom with DD1 when DD2 at 18 months, slammed the door shut and something fell out of the lock. I had water heating on the stove and DD2 outside and thought the house would catch fire. I had to actually break the door down. Very traumatic. Glad your DDil got out OK.

Herbs - well done you on telling him off. I hope that took the wind out of his sails. Hope I cannot expect similar on Monday morning.

Quiet day today made DS walk in the forest for some exercise (bit like walking the dog). He is starting to get argumentative and grumpy - adolescence kicking in. Then we all watched Testament of Youth - so they can see how goddamn lucky they are.

Rosebag · 29/10/2015 19:59

Yes, you are all so very wise, dear Crepeys. I will call in reinforcements if I can't manage. dD is wanting to come home after the rehearsal to get dressed up in Haloween finery and then be taken to the friend's house. The friend's house is a few doors down from the theatre Angry I may not comply.

tilly I can't believe how much you've crammed in to your trip. Respect.

crem I am sure Sister will be on your case if you don't use this time off completely for yourself!! I dunno about these DM's. Stubborn, critical and demanding...is it a trait of our people do you think?

Golly these locked in the bathroom and other places stories are quite terrifying. I think the only one we had was DD locking DS2 in the loo from the outside. After banging and calling for ages which noone heard, he sent me a web text from the laptop. Do not ask what he was doing with the lap top in the bog... Grin

MrsSchadenfreude · 29/10/2015 20:24

Just catching up...

Crem, if you don't have a nice rest, I am going to tell on you with Sister.

Rose - sending good vibes to cope with it all.

I still don't know what I am doing in this job and am slightly panicking that I never will. There is just so much of it, it is all Difficult and Slightly Overwhelming.

I spoke too soon about the Man Upstairs this morning. As I opened the front door, I noticed a shoe, a lot of papers scattered everywhere and a phone. He was sitting on the stairs grinning at me, and told me he slept on our landing last night. He had, apparently fallen down the stairs and knocked himself out and decided to sleep there when he woke up. There were no bumps on his head, but it certainly smelled like he slept on the landing. I gave him back all of his papers, shoe and phone, and told him I was going to work. I didn't have time to stand there while he dithered about whether he wanted me to put his papers in our flat for safe keeping, I needed to get to work. I got to work, called social services and was slightly hysterical. The woman I spoke to said that his mental health worker was in a meeting discussing Man Upstairs and she would take the information in to him. He would call me back later, but it might be much later than afternoon. He didn't call back, so I called him. Man Upstairs is on the landing now, I can hear him, but I am not answering the door. His DD visited him yesterday and told DH that she thought he seemed "fine, much better than she expected." Like fuck is he fine.

MrsSchadenfreude · 29/10/2015 20:32

BTM, if you are still in NYC, pop into a Walgreens or Duane Reade and get Tylenol cold and flu day and night. I swear by it, although it is probably psychological and no different to Dight Durse.

hattymattie · 29/10/2015 20:33

God Mrs S - I'd have screamed in his face by now. I think his DD is deliberately sticking her head in the sand. Hope you get some resolution with Social Services.

I think it's entirely natural that your new job feels overwhelming - there's always going to be an adjustment period.

bigTillyMint · 29/10/2015 21:11

MrsS, we did just that yesterday and DD has been dosed up since! It seems to be working as she is in MUCH better spirits today!
And thanks so much for the Tenement Museum rec - it was fabulous - we did the shop life tour and the girl was great and it was really interactive Smile And we had a huuuuge slow-cooked pulled turkey "sandwich" for lunch in Katz deli - mouth-watering and what an experience - loved it!
Now thinking about when I could come back - anyone up for a crepeys-hit-NYC visit?

Hope you get some decent news from the MH team. I just had a text from friends mum who said DM was in a flap because she couldn't remember where I wasConfused

motherinferior · 29/10/2015 21:41

I have never been to NYBlushso it could be considered kindness to the less fortunate.

Blackduck · 30/10/2015 00:14

Quick drop in as very tired!

Rose so sorry to hear about ddad and DMum.

Cremo - rest up or I shall tell sister.

MrsS I am sure you will be okay!

What all the best people in Venice are wearing Smile

Crepe Fear!
Auriga · 30/10/2015 00:50

Crem

rest, avoid stress, keep calm, do the exercises and signed off work

This has put a smile back on Sister's face. She is humming A Spoonful of Sugar as she adds your name to the list for relaxation therapy Smile

hattymattie · 30/10/2015 08:09

Auriga - I'm sure you're on my FB but now I'm imagining you like Julie AndrewsSmile

Blackduck · 30/10/2015 08:39

Okay - caught up!!

MrsS, Herbs - you are both fab people and the jobs will click, it will take time so don't stress.

Cremo - yes to being signed off! :) at 'until 65' comment ) - hope it is long enough..

Rose - hope things get sorted with DDad.

NU - how scary! I once got locked out of the house with ds (a toddler) on the inside.....I went to a neighbour who bunked me over (two) fences and got in the back which luckily was unlocked.....

BTM - safe trip home.

Rudy - drag your bed into sickbay and join the gang!

Stropps - sure it is all fine, they don't realise you are stressing because you haven't had anything official!

Yesterday was another packed day, Doges palace, Basillica, aqua alta in funny wellies (see pic above), Biannalie, Arsannale..... Southend airport (who knew Southend had an airport)

I have not really thought about work for two solid days and have realised this is how it should be. I do not want to go back.

Have a lovely Friday Crepeys.
