Are Bootcut Jeans Really back?

polyhymnia · 11/10/2015 15:56

Just that, really. I usually wear skinny jeans, though did have some quite nice M and S Autograph Girlfriend ones this summer.

Wondering about a change and see bootcuts are supposed to be 'back'. Like this:
www.nydj.eu/bootcut-in-blue-premium-denim-95476lt-larchmont-wash??

Can wear them (as I can skinnies) because, though large, I'm tall and long-legged. But, though I hope I'm not a slave to 'fashion,' not sure if I'd feel stylish in them after quite a few years of feeling frumpy if I put on my old ones.

Views?

If bootcut jeans suit you.

And you have a pair that fit nicely.

Then wear them.

They were never intrinsically frumpy, only frumpy if they were old or worn out or poorly-fitting. (or worst of all a bit too short)

DramaAlpaca · 11/10/2015 16:30

Well, I'm a similar shape to you by the sounds of it & I wear skinnies and bootcuts and feel good in both styles. I can't pretend to be fashionable or stylish though, so maybe I'm not the right person to comment!

Notoedike · 11/10/2015 16:40

I love the cropped flares - don't like the 90's style boot cut - imo you have to work quite hard at making it look current and not frumpy.

Trills · 11/10/2015 16:46

"Cropped flares" sound like the worst trousers ever to me.

But if you like them, me disliking them shouldn't affect your decision.

NotTodaySatan · 11/10/2015 16:53

Hmmm. Maybe I'm socially conditioned but to me bootcuts look really old fashioned. My mum wears them with Haley Cropper coats, jaunty scarves and these sort of shoes. I can't see them as stylish because of this alone.

No, I don't think I'd fancy trying to carry off 'cropped flares'.

And wasn't going to dig out my old bootcuts, because I've given them to a charity shop.

Just wondering if I should invest in a new pair of bootcuts - probably dark blue as in those linked - for this winter, instead of yet another pair of skinnies.

Aaargh to the boots, btw. And if I wear a scarf - and I have a few - it isn't 'jaunty'!

Toraleistripe · 11/10/2015 17:02

Aaaaagh those boots!

polyhymnia · 11/10/2015 17:04

I also wouldn't style the bootcuts like those in the picture I posted!

Bootcut jeans are very flattering for big bums, I always wear them.

bigTillyMint · 11/10/2015 17:09

Those ones don't look very boot-cut, more straight-legConfused And I think they are slightly short. They look OK on the model because she is a very tall size zero, so if you are too, slightly short might be OKWink

Didiusfalco · 11/10/2015 17:13

I never stopped wearing them Blush. I'm mid 30s, but quite short and slightly pear shaped. Skinnies not a good look for me! Its about what suits you best surely? Quite pleased to hear that they are coming back though - will be easier to find.

Trills · 11/10/2015 17:18

I agree that the ones in the picture are barely bootcut. I prefer a bit more curve.

polyhymnia · 11/10/2015 17:18

Actually, they are 33'' leg, which should be fine for me.

I know what you mean by 'not very bootcut', though - the site says, though that the leg opening at the bottom is 45.5cm (17.9''), compared to 35.5cm (14 ins) on their skinnies, but I'm also wondering if that's 'different' enough.

I love the seventies flared jeans or trousers.
I saw a woman wearing them yesterday.
She looked amazing.
However, I don't like boot cut trousers.

HarrietSchulenberg · 11/10/2015 17:22

I've never stopped wearing bootcuts. I never wore skinnies as a) they wouldn't have suited, or fitted, me and b) they screamed 80s throwback to my aged mind.

Bootcuts and flares suit my strange tall but lumpy shape. And I can't keep up with fashion anyway.

bigTillyMint · 11/10/2015 17:44

I have flares on todaySmile

Greengardenpixie · 11/10/2015 17:44

Im kind of with Harriet. I really like bootcuts and flares and never stopped wearing them. I wear them with converse type shoes. Sometimes wear with my blundstone boots too. Personally, if you wear them with heels, i think they look kind of frumpy to me. I like a more casual hippy look.

jazzchickens · 11/10/2015 18:02

Bootcut, skinny, boyfriend, girlfriend, relaxed, uptight (okay, I made that one up) .. there are so many different types in the shops. Just wear what suits your body shape and feels comfortable.

Doobigetta · 11/10/2015 19:02

I think bootcut/flared only work right now if they are part of a whole full-on 70s look. Then they look great. Otherwise, they are still too mumsy.

polyhymnia · 11/10/2015 23:12

Both bootcuts and skinnies suit me. Only thought about bootcuts for some novelty. But do sort of see Doobigetta's point, and the views of posters who favour going the whole hog and choosing flares.

But, if I do try bootcut again, certainly won't be wearing heels with them but much more of a casual look.

PastaPot · 11/10/2015 23:19

I hope they do come back. I'm a horrible apple shape and skinnies make me look like a weeble.

CarpetDiem · 11/10/2015 23:26

No.

spiderlight · 12/10/2015 13:05

My bootcuts never went away! Grin I look like a parsnip in skinny jeans and bootcuts suit my shape much better (short and quite ample of thigh), so I couldn't care less whether they're 'in' or not.

burnishedsilver · 12/10/2015 13:26

Yes they're back. The high street are calling them flares but most of them are actually boot cut. I'm embracing them because I'm sick of skinnies, proper flares are impactical and boyfriend jeans look awful on me.
