I've been using this for a week and my skin looks worse than ever, the box states visible results in 24 hours. I accept that skin can sometimes get worse before it gets better with new products, but how long before I have clear skin again?

How much worse?

The 24 hour claim is bullshit. I did notice that my massive cystic spots were stopped in their tracks but it took several weeks for them to disappear. I also got a load of random spots appear, often in places I didn't ever get spots eyebrow spots??? but they were tiny and not like my usual fat deep cystic ones and disappeared very quickly.

After 2-3 weeks use they had all gone and I was getting v few big spots reappearing and after 6 there were no spots at all.

I found I didn't need moisturiser with Effaclar Duo so just cleanser and Duo was enough.

I don't use it now as I prefer other salicylic products and my skin has never gone back to as bad as it was but it is great.

It made my skin worse for the first 2 weeks. Kept getting little spots everywhere but i had read it has done this to others to so i carried on with it then the spots stopped and it dramatically improved my skin. Have had adult acne for the last 6 years and it's the only thing that has helped. I stopped using it for 2 weeks when I ran out and all my spots came back. I've noticed an improvement on my scarring as well. I only use the moisturiser at the moments but going to get the cleanser and toner and see how I fair with it all.

All I can say is that I had troublesome, PCOS-related hormonal spots for around 20 years and had tried SO MANY PRODUCTS. Effacer Duo (as well as the Effacer face wash) has entirely revolutionised (seriously not an over statement) my skin - I now get virtually no spots at all, although like Getuhda says, if I stop using Effacer they return.

I'd say it's worth sticking with it, as if it works for you, your skin will look amazing. I'd say give it at least six weeks.

Wolpertinger · 11/10/2015 13:31

It takes 6 weeks for you to have entirely new skin so for the first 6 weeks of using it, it's dealling with skin that already has lots of issues.

After 6 weeks you should have lovely new skin and the Effaclar is working as a preventative rather than having treat problems.

Unfortunately your lovely new skin will tend to want to go back to making acne so if you stop using the Effaclar, the spots will come back. I found I didn't need as strong a product as Effaclar though once I was in prevention mode.

How are you using it? Have you been rubbing it over your whole face?

I use it solely on my cystic lumpy spots. Gets rid of them in 24 hours.

Wolpertinger · 11/10/2015 14:17

If you use it just on the spots it gets rid of spots that have appeared.

If you use it on your whole face you stop the spots appearing at all in the first place.

I use my moisturiser as a primer. I'm not a huge fan of primers and this works better than any I've tried.

It has a lot of silicone in it whichay clog pores
There are plenty of other formulations containing salicylic acid which you could use, eg Vichy normaderm

Not a big fan here either. Started having spots about 5 months ago, got the Effaclar cleanser toner and duo+ and my skin began to produce even more oil by lunchtime it was visibly more oily. Anyway I decided to stop the product altogether, and now I am using stuff from the Simple range. Not fantastic byte I can't afford anything else at the moment. Really cross as I spent 30 pounds on the Effaclar products.
