Can I get the zip on my knee high boots mended on replaced?

I've broken the zip on my favourite boots and am gutted. Is there somewhere that will be able to sort it for me? Do shoe menders still exist or would a sewing place be better?

Ime it will have to be a cobblers. Sewing places I asked couldn't d it.

I had a zip on an ankle boot repaired at Timpsons the high St chain cobblers and it cost £25. I suspect an independent cobbler would be cheaper.

I took my favourite pair into my local independent place and they quoted £45! I decided I didn't like them THAT much in the end.

Cobblers will do but price of 30 to 40 would not surprise me

Are they new enough that you can contact manuf to say it's a fault? If not... might be better to look for a new pair on sale unless you are confident you'd get a lot of wear out of them

And do look for a replacement of the exact same boot on ebay... I have found a replacement of a favourite dress and shirt for pennies vs what I paid (downside is you can get stuck in a time warp but hey ho)

Thank you all, think I'll try and find a cobbler and see how much they charge. They're several years old so don't owe me anything but I was hoping to get another winter out of them. Great minds think alike pdxs -already watching a pair on eBay! i don't mind being in a time warp if I can have flattering comfy boots :)

Hope you win your auction!

Timpson's are doing mine for £20 (one boot) if they can get a zip to fit and match the other boot. I was going to go to an independent, but a lady I know showed me the terrible job they did on her boots.

Have a look locally for somebody who does repairs for bikers - leather jackets etc. There will be one I'm sure - perhaps find your local biker group and ask there.

Summerdiamond · 11/10/2015 14:49

Any sewing place that's goid will be able to do it for you. These places can repair motorbike leathers & boots also

BikeRunSki · 14/10/2015 18:43

Just got mine back from Timpson's. They've done an excellent job. They apologised that it took them so long (a week), it took them ages to find a matching zip.

CambridgeBlue · 14/10/2015 22:02

Timpson's have quoted me £40 and it will take 3 weeks so I don't think it's going to be worth it :(
