Style inspiration for a winter christening

All of the church-suitable outfits that I have in my head are summery.

For some reason I have got it into my head that one does not wear dark colours to church.

If you were a very stylish person and you were going to a winter christening, what would you wear?

Fur(ish), velvet, tweed. And my very best perfume.

Im not proclaiming to be ultra fashionable but when I went to a Dec christening at an rc church, so very traditional. I wore a pencil skirt from monsoon. It was black with bright flowers like cerise, purple and gold and a black cardigan with a pink vest underneath and a colourful necklace.
I also wore my.smart wool coat that was black and grey and black suede shoe boots. Mostly dark colours but I felt appropriate for the weather, time of year and occasion.
I've also been to another one and wore a black shift dress and coloured cardigan and shoes.
My mum looked stunning in a teal dress which she accessorised with red and grey.
Just avoid sequins and metallic fabrics otherwise you'll look like you are going to a Christmas party.

Sounds like it is all about the textures:

fur, velvet, tweed - yes

sequin, metallic - no

I went to a christening just this morning. There were lots of black, not all black but black top or bottom with a coloured or pattern other half, black shoes and coats. Navy with red or pink, and a bit of purple and green. Nobody looked like they had bought anything specially for the occasion, it was more like dressing up normal smart clothes with a scarf and jewellery and heels. Also if it's an old church they are freezing, most people kept their coats on so it didn't matter what was worn underneath.

Good point about the coat.

I've only been to this church in the summer (for the wedding of the child that is being christened, natch)
