Leather trainers - converse or ash? (Or something else!)

I'm wanting some leather trainers - something slightly more waterproof for the Autumn/winter than my usual regular converse which I live in

Would you go for leather converse, or ash Virgo/virgin - or something else altogether?

I love my leather converse, on my third pair, they last me about 18 months worn once a week

KeepCalm74 · 09/10/2015 19:37

I have Ash virgins - v comfy, waterproof and so far have lasted nearly 2 years Shock Being worn up to 3 times a week

BoSelectaBigBiff · 09/10/2015 20:54

Thank you whydoes and keepcalm - an evenly split vote so far, so not helping me decide at the moment Grin But it's very useful to hear stuff like how long they last for etc.

As luck would have it, we've a trip to the Olympic park planned tomorrow, so I'm sure we can make time for a bit of trying-on in Westfield!

I loved my Ash Virgins. I wore them everyday for a year on maternity leave then every weekend for another year. Alas I can't afford another pair so will try leather converse but am holding off as I fear it will be a false economy as I really want another pair of Virgins.

GlitteringJasper · 10/10/2015 07:32

I've never thought of a pair of these before, maybe out of loop but never heard of Ash! They look gorgeous!

Do people just tuck skinny jeans into them? Blush

Kerplonker · 10/10/2015 08:05

I have a pair of very dark navy leather converse. They've lasted two years so far, I wear them most weekends. Comfortable and lots of compliments (apart from one man who said I was wearing dominatrix trainers????)

What a wanker! I suppose he thought women should be teetering round in heels.

Cerseirys · 10/10/2015 08:25

My feet are too big for Ash size 8 Sad so it has to be Converse for me as sometimes even the ladies' ones come in size 9 if you look online. Not a fan of the cloth kind though, I have a pair of silver trainers that are still going strong after 3.5 years, and snakeskin effect hi-tops that I bought earlier this year.

I love the Ash ones although don't own any but have addidas Stan Smiths in black which I wear all the tiime.

I also have some black leather Puma high tops which are great.

BoSelectaBigBiff · 10/10/2015 10:05

glittering I had wondered the exact same thing about hi tops & skinny jeans. Maybe someone with more fashion knowledge than us will come along and explain it to us! Grin But for that very reason, I was thinking of getting low tops.

I'm edging slightly towards converse, purely on a cost basis, but I am more than open to bring persuaded otherwise!

I got some hi top leather Converse last winter and they were great.

Knackeredknitter67 · 10/10/2015 11:26

I have Ash high tops, and Stan Smiths. I did have some Puma Swedes, which my 12 year old has now nabbed declaring them as comfy as slippers.
I have Converse leather low tops, which are comfortable, but not as much as my Ash virgins.

Knackeredknitter67 · 10/10/2015 11:27

Suedes, not swedes....

Knackeredknitter67 · 10/10/2015 11:29

I quite like the look of Adidas Gazelles

Princesspond · 10/10/2015 13:21

I've got some Kurt Geiger Lizzys which are v similar to Ash virgin, I was going to say they are slightly cheaper but a quick google (£160) maybe not! I picked them up for £39 on shoeaholics. Kat on dmbl40 blog is all about golden goose at the moment.

Ujjayi · 10/10/2015 17:45

I debated the same issue over the last few weeks & settled on leather Converse in white. I like Ash trainers but they don't look right with smarter trousers IMO.

As for DMBL40 & her Golden Goose trainers...totally emperor's new clothes. They look awful - tatty & used.

Twinkie1 · 10/10/2015 17:47

Ash all the way. I have a huge collection in many different colours.

They are really comfortable and the Virgin ones have the added advantage of being laceless so you just have to zip yourself into them!
