If I like Diorella, what other perfume might I like?

Diorella is lovely but I have been wearing it on and off for 25 years and it's time for a change. I hate perfume shopping- I can only ever smell the first one, after that my nose is gone.
Any ideas of what to try so I don't waste my nose next time I'm out?

I have just bought Cartier baiser vole which is a lily scent. When first sprayed it is very green like fresh cut flowers but I think the dry down is just gorgeous and warm. I tried it in John Lewis but got a better price on Amazon.

Fragrantica recommends O de Lancome and Chanel Cristalle. Maybe Chanel No19 if you like something woodier? If you want to head into the white floral direction, Fragonard by Fragonard is a lovely lily (not lily of the valley) scent with a warmer ambery drydown (M&S stock it). M&S Florentyna White Flowers is a lovely pure white floral scent, no greens and no woods, somewhat bizarrely as the regular Florentyna is horrid.

Maybe Prada Infusion d'Iris?

Wow thanks, so many ideas! I'm not looking for pure floral, I like a perfume to have some depth, but I don't think I get on with really musky scents either. Woody or Amber sound lovely

Infusion d'Iris is quite woody, iris scents tend to be.

Diorella is my favourite perfume ever and like you I've been wearing it for years. I understand the current formulation is a bit different. It's described in my book Perfumes - The Guide by Luca Turin and Tania Sanchez as androgynous and "a perfected Eau Sauvage" and "one of the best masculines money can buy"! They have it as a woody citrus. They also have a list of their best chypres, including Diorella, and there is also

I've only heard of s couple of those, it's a US book, but following the chypre route might help?

My bottle is a few years old, now I'm just temped to try the new version...

Diorella was invented in 1972 that makes it as old as me!

Knowing is a BIG 80s Lauder fragrance - try that and Spellbound, I think Spellbound is a bit easier to wear but that might be me.

Mitsouko does sound like something to try.

This has been a fascinating eye opener, having read up on chypre perfumes I realise why I love Diorella and also CK one so much - they have all the ingredients that I love.
I'm tempted by Molyneux Quartz as its very cheep on Amazon but also considering Chanel 19.

Love this thread. Diorella is the perfume I wore when I got married and I wore it for years. I've never been keen on the new version.

I also wear O de Lancome although it doesn't have the depth of Diorella, that almost liquorice spiciness you get after it's settled down.

Will lookout for some of these suggestions.

Mitsouko has a definite anise-y note to it.

Hopeful I have read quite a bit about Mitsouko - description and review and I'm a bit concerned that it may be a bit too sophisticated for me. It was supposedly Margaret Thatchers favourite perfume, not that that should put me off but it does rather colour my thinking. I am in no way a formal person and, despite being a professional and expert in my field, I never wear a suit or makeup.

I don't wear chypres, but if it helps I am not a formal person at all (I do wear makeup but I work in a supermarket and wear jeans and trainers outside work) and I wear fecking Shalimar! I'm in my mid-late 20s and love those big heavy orientals (although not to work since I don't like them to clash with food smells). I'm quite surprised Mitsouko was Thatcher's favourite! When it and the other early Guerlains were created, most perfumes were soliflores (meant to smell like a particular flower eg a rose or a violet), think Yardley type stuff. Mitsouko, L'Heure Bleue, Shalimar etc etc were pretty daring and exciting. I think the issue is just that what smells 'young' nowadays is so samey and childish.

I agree that what smells young is samey and too lightweight.
Right, so having spent the day researching every scent a google rabbit hole can come up with, I have ordered Knowing from Amazon. I shall let you know how it feels.

Tir, Mrs Thatcher used to wear Diorella as well according to Jilly Cooper who interviewed her. I remember being a bit put off by that myself.

this is interesting. The author describes Diorella as having something 'gone bad' at its heart.

I read the description of Diorella as "garbage with flowers thrown on top" earlier and realised that if I was shopping for it now and purely on description I would certainly not consider it. I do agree that it sometimes does smell rather ripe, I think it depends on my mood.
