how do you work out whether you're cool toned or warm toned?

Ok riddle me this:
Auburn / chestnut hair
Pale blue / green eyes
Yellow undertone to skin - but pale
Burn easily but can tan eventually
Blue and green veins on inside of wrist
Have rosacea so redness in face and flushing

Am 35 and really should have figured this out by now.

Want to buy a bright lipstick but don't know whether to buy one for a cool or warm toned person...

Any ideas?!?

Based on the picture, you look warm, OP.

OP, you're definitely warm.

High contrast = pale eyes & dark hair or dark eyes & pale hair. Traditional 'Celtic colouring' is high contrast.

You would appear to be high contrast because you have very pale eyes and darker tones in your hair.

You could identify the house of colour possibilities online from descriptions/sleb examples and find out what colours are recommended then see what seems to suit you using stuff in your wardrobe/jewelry/make up bag or in shops. That wouldn't cost anything!

Or if you want to splash some cash you could book analysis!

Gawd!

I already splashed a load of cash on skincare thanks to the "looking good at 40" thread.

Then I just bought Gay Geranium thanks to that lipstick thread!!

And I'm usually such a skinflint so careful. It's because I decided I was long overdue in need if an overhaul!

Might have to wait a long while to get my colours done!

Need to name change as well now you've all seen me unmasked Grin

Pinterest can be very helpful if you at least know what doesn't suit you and have a general idea of what colours you like. Tends to be Colour Me Beautiful rather than HOC though, so if you want to have your colours done via HOC eventually don't take Pinterest as gospel. But it is a helpful guide to rough season outlines.

That wrist thing is total crap. My veins are so green they look like gangrene.? But I have cool not warm colouring. I'm a summer which means cool based colours suit me. I look great in pinks bad blues and crap in warm based tones.

If you can afford it, I recommend having your colours analysed professionally (and I'm not an analyst!). It really will help you avoid mistakes in future (both makeup and clothes), so will save you money in the long run.
I've loved every item of clothing and makeup I've bought since having my colours "done" (and my bf thinks it's great that shopping is so much easier now too!).

Agree with the wrist thing being crap. My veins are very green but I'm definitely cool

My veins look blue/purple to me and I've been analysed as Autumn (therefore warm) by HoC.

Best daylight one I can find

You look cool to me and I'd say a Summer, but it's hard to tell from pictures alone without draping.

Yeah of course, that makes sense. I really have no idea! I don't wear yellow or orange but that's mainly because of my hair!

You definitely look cool toned to me too. Your skin is pink and white, there's no ivory or peach there.

See, I don't get the skin tone thing either. I have an olive sallow complexion, but am still cool based

Me too Orange. My "lightbulb" HoC moment was cream & brown vs white & navy. It was so obvious that the cool colours looked way better than the warm.

I look yellow most of the timeGrin. Cool colours take that jaundiced tinge away

goodasitgets - cool

Utterly confused here
Silver hair, brown eyes, sallow/easily tanned skin = ?
Wrist veins blue (goodness knows what that signifies!)
Never wear yellow, rarely wear green, occasionally wear orange. Usually wear black, blue, grey....

Hi - long time lurker, first time poster.

OP - your description could exactly describe me and I assumed I was cool.
I went and had my colours done yesterday with CMB and was amazed that I was actually warm. When she held the colours against me I realised the difference a few tones made so would really recommend getting a good analysis. I'm now looking at things very differently in my wardrobe.

Orange I have that kind of skintone too (pale olive, look yellow-based but actually have quite a distinct green undertone to my skin), still a Winter (quite obviously when draped/wearing Winter clothes). I think some skintones are more confounding than others! I still find purple quite tricky to wear though.

Nonna I think you would need some colour analysis before you could say. It's not just about colours but what shades, what undertones they have etc - so not just 'blue' but 'sky blue' or 'royal blue' or 'marine blue' or whatever. Everyone can wear blue of some kind but it just depends on the type. Likewise as a Winter I can still wear yellow, just very specific shades.

goodasitgets - you're an odd one! You initially look cool because your skin has a lot of delicate pink in it. But your lips are warm toned, as is your hair Very few people with cool toned skin have red hair, and when they do it's not usually as yellow/warm toned as yours is.
