What to wear to evening wedding reception ?

I am pretty clueless
Do people wear dresses or is it more casual on the evening?

It could be more formal. You could ask the couple maybe? I would prob wear a longish dress, I would go for velvet for late autumn/ winter as its fashionable now and warm.

Smart trousers would prob be ok though, with a velvet jacket maybe? (I like the velvet trend.)

I dont know the couple its an aquaintance of my bf
Dont think i could do velvet ,reminds me of my goth days.

For the last 300 I have been to (or maybe it just seems like it!) I have worn a knee length black cocktail dress with heels and a black tuxedo type jacket over the top.

So should i play it safe and stick to black?
Or would something colourful not fit in ?
The venue is a posh country hotel

Either! Think O would stick to a plain colour- something eveningish rather than floral and weddingy.

I went to one on saturday and wore a navy with white polka dots knee length shift dress. Seemed most folks had gone for knee length dresses of some description.
