Not sure if S&B or property ... hallway shoe storage

hippospot · 04/10/2015 16:32

We have no built-in storage in our hallway, nor is it possible to make any. So I need some kind of free-standing cupboard for shoes, ideally quite shallow, able to accommodate shoes for four people including two with big feet!

I don't want open shoe shelves any more since this is what we've had till now and it's the first thing people see when they come to our house, plus the four shelves we have are now overflowing as DCs get bigger and need more types of footwear.

I'd like wood if possible. Please link to anything good you know. Thanks!

Or if you have space under your stairs then this is the solution

Have you seen the Hemnes cabinet from Ikea? Link

herecomesthsun · 04/10/2015 18:36

How would we go about getting someone to build those cupboards?

ggirl · 04/10/2015 18:37

nothing works in my experience , no matter what everyone just throws their shoes in a pile...bastards

This with one box each?

We've got something from ikea very similar to the last post but two compartments across and two high. We have wicker baskets in the spaces - one each. Won't store every pair of shoes we own, but all kids shoes fit in their basket and me and DH can keep a few pairs in our baskets.

Salmiak · 04/10/2015 18:56

herecomesthesun you can get the installed by the company or get them flat packed and get a local carpenter to fit them. This company does them, but there are plenty more on Google

Sorry, still haven't figured out how to do a clever clicky link thing

MrsAukerman · 04/10/2015 19:11

I came on to recommend the Hemnes from IKEA but I see I am indeed seconding it. The top drawer is actually big enough for ballet pumps if you're so inclined.

hippospot · 04/10/2015 20:08

Alas under the stairs there is already a loo! I would have loved a solid wood piece but it may have to be Ikea if I find nothing else. I agree they look very practical, though I'd probably need two for all the shoes!

Thanks everyone.

We just have a large ish wicker basket that shoes get thrown into. It's the only thing everyone seems to cooperate with rather than expecting me to put them away.
