Rectangle shape - help with new coat?

Right, I've debated over whether to post as I don't know if this is the kind of thing I can get help with ... But I'm really hoping for some help for people who are better at the whole clothes/fashion thing than I am!

I have a "rectangle" body shape but huge chest area. Almost nothing really seems to work but I've worked out over the years that v-necks are best, along with plain trousers.

I'm now trying to find a new coat/jacket, preferably leather as I had one years ago which I just loved.

Please can anyone point to any styles that might work with a rectangle body shape? Or anywhere I can find more advice? Thank you in advance!

Sorry, that was probably very obvious to everyone else. I feel like there should be a class somewhere I can take where I learn this kind of thing. And about mortgages and stuff too. All the things a proper grown up needs to know

A trench coat sounds ideal, don't go for anything too curvy (flared at the bottom/curved lapels etc). You need a personal shopper/personal stylist type person if you want lessons, btw .

Thanks hopefully. I did try to talk to one in a John Lewis store once but I she wasn't terribly helpful. I might Google to see if there are any locally!

(Well to be fair I say not helpful, it probably helps them when you have a clear idea of what you need too! I will start off with trench coat and go from there)

Leather trench coats are gorgeous. Very expensive though!

anddeepbreath I think independent personal shoppers are better than tied ones, even in big department stores - there is SO much available online and in high end and cheap shops that department stores just don't cover. My job has actually become largely about personal shopping/personal styling in the last year or two (I'm personal colour analyst by training), and I've got several clients who have found online mood boards and shopping lists on Pinterest really useful, so you might want to find someone to do that for you. I need to meet them in person though, so I'm probably no use to you! (unless you happen to live in deepest darkest Devon or want to spend a small fortune paying me to leave deepest darkest Devon )

Meanwhile leather coats are eyewateringly expensive, I may have to put that vague dream aside...
