What to wear with Chelsea boots?

I feel in love with these boots from New Look. Never had a pair like it before. Nor have I had brown boots.

Currently 20 weeks pregnant, 11st 8lbs and 5'3, if that makes a difference. Have outgrown my usual 10-12 clothes so planning a moderate spree next week to buy maternity jeans and new tops.

What sort of jeans go best with these? And tops? I am totally clueless.

Topshop do really soft comfy maternity jeans. I'd go skinnyish and navy.

amarmai · 03/10/2015 16:25

selected H&M stores have great maternity wear.

I think they'd go with any skinny jean - be aware that if you get straight you're going to suffer that in or out dilemma with the cuffs (you're not going to want to roll them up in the middle of winter!). I like chelsea boots with opaques and skirts too, but I am aware I'm in a MN minority there...

HolgerDanske · 03/10/2015 16:56

You can wear a walking sock or thick sock of some sort (there's a specific type of sock I'm thinking of but I can't think of the name) and scrunch it down so it sits just over the top of the boot and just under the cuff of your jeans, which is how I'm going to wear them this winter. You can also wear them with dresses and tights.

I sometimes cheat and wear them with skinnies tucked into the boot because really I'd rather not be cold. But I know it really isn't the done thing, I just try not to care too much.

I'm 18 weeks pregnant and after trying on lots of maternity jeans in H&M, I bought these in grey/black:

They are nice and soft and I've just ordered the mid blue as well. I'm usually a size 8 in other shops but went for a 10 in these and they're spot on. There's a 20% discount card in Glamour magazine this month for £30+ spend in H&M.

I am wearing Chelsea boots with an a-line skirt and opaques right now. I roll skinny jeans up, and wear printed or fishnet ankle-highs with them in winter instead of having the gap of bare skin.

stareatthetvscreen · 03/10/2015 17:23

i've seen a pink pair i like at tk maxx.i was thinking of wearing mine with woolly socks or legwarmers and a skirt.

yay or nay?

HolgerDanske · 03/10/2015 17:26

Yea for me - I like quirky slightly unusual boot colours and I like the style of those. Very nice, might have to nab a pair!

stareatthetvscreen · 03/10/2015 17:30

:)

HolgerDanske · 03/10/2015 17:33

Looking at them again my only reservation is that I think the black elastic looks a little too harsh, I'd like them a lot more if they had a more harmonising elastic colour. I'd like them even more if they weren't Superdry. But that's just my personal preferences and if you like them I think yes absolutely, get them. Chelsea boots are versatile and easy to wear and comfortable to walk in. Big thumbs up from me!

HolgerDanske · 03/10/2015 17:35

And the Superdry thing is mainly that my daughters wear it a fair bit so I think of it as a bit too young for me. But that won't be relevant to you Smile

Sillyshell · 03/10/2015 17:38

I have these boots and whilst they are really comfy and look good, they have already scuffed quite badly. Was gutted cause I really liked them :(

stareatthetvscreen · 03/10/2015 17:39

oh i am old holger v old :)

HolgerDanske · 03/10/2015 20:27

You're allowed to wear them, I don't tend to believe clothing or boots should be classified as too 'young' in general! I just classify it as too young for me as that's how it looks to me, in relation to myself only, when my own daughters are wearing it Smile

If you like them you should absolutely get them!

beavington · 03/10/2015 23:23

Is tucking jeans into all ankle boots a no-no? Or just Chelsea boots?

HolgerDanske · 04/10/2015 00:33

Yes you can tuck proper skinnies in, sorry meant not quite skinny but maybe more straight in that post above. My jeans I was referring to aren't actually skinny jeans. If they were I wouldn't have a problem tucking them in.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 04/10/2015 00:58

I'm a reet old fogey.

So feel free to ignore me (every other bugger does Hmm )

I love Chelsea boots but only with a straight leg or boot cut pair of jeans and they need to be long enough but not trip-me-up long.

Skinnies and chelseas remind me of jodhpurs and jodhpur boots.
I used to wear these as a teenager through to my early 30s when I did go horse riding so for me , they're not a fashion look.

beavington · 04/10/2015 12:14

Ah ok thanks :) I really like these boots OP thanks for posting :)
