Best treatment for facial scars

Following an accident last weeked, I have an injury to my top lip. Basically, about an inch of my top lip was split. I've been stitched up and the hospital gave me ointment to apply to the wound, and the stitches are due out to come out at the weekend.

I've been told it will scar, which is fine, but is there anything I can apply to minimise the scarring. On a general basis, I know nothing about makeup and beauty products, so I'd rather not attempt to cover it up, but I am vain enough to hope to reduce it. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Thanks!

Used it on my thyroidectomy scar (recommended by the surgeon) and it's hardly visible.

I have just had my stitches out following facial surgery. Talked to the plastic surgeon about bio oil etc (basically wanted to know if it was, in fact, snake oil)
He told me any oil will do, it's actually the massage that makes the difference, but that most people end up with bio oil because they've heard of it.
I have duly bought some bio oil...

I had a mole removed from my chin. The dermatologist recommended Kelo-cote.

Yes, it's the action of the massaging that helps break up the scar tissue so any oil will do, even coconut.

Wonder if Retin A would help when the scar has matured?

I had a bad dog bite several years ago. I used vitamin E oil ( just bought some capsules ans squeezed the oil out) the scar healed really well. Its barely noticable now.
