Jeans/trou style for the winter, I am struggling, please help

I am 5'9" and a size 12-14. I wore skinny jeans and ankle boots with a heel last winter but they didn't look that great in me. I am reasonably tall and fairly slim, But not dainty, hips are on the wider side and thighs aren't as slim as I would like. So I don't look hideous in skinnies but they aren't perfect for me and I would like something better this year.
I have been wearing chinos, utility trousers in a peg shape, or boyfriend jeans. All rolled up at the ankle, with sandals or trainers. I also like those kinds of trousers with heeled shoe boots or high courts. I am comfortable with that look and my style is reasonably fashionable. I am 34.
The problem I have is that it is cold and I can't cope with cold ankles. Also a lot of my boyfriend jeans and utility trousers have rips in the knees which are also freezing.
Please help me to find what trousers I can wear this winter. Straight leg jeans just look dull on me, I'm not sure what kind of "style" I am in terms of classic, gamine, dramatic etc etc but I do like clothes that are a bit edgy and I need some detail or point of inerest in my clothes, Straight leg jeans and a plain t shirt will make me look awful, whereas boyfriend jeans with rips and a top with some details will look fine.
Sorry for epic post but I need help!!

See the Next Cigarette jeans thread. They're brilliant. Roll them up or down depending on the weather and you can shove them into over the knee boots when it's really cold.

Wide legged flannel type trews with brogues or loafers.

How about the girlfriend jeans rolled up like you would with boyfriend, but with wooly socks and then ankle boots? So you see top of ankle boots, a few ruffles of sock, and then the turn up of jean. I wear this style as I have super long legs and like to break up the bottom half of leg so I look a bit more in proportion.

That's interesting divere I wouldn't have thought of the socks replacing the bare ankle section. I wonder if that would work. Wouldn't work with trainers though, maybe I just have to accept that Trainers are for spring and autumn but not winter

I think they have to be quite chunky socks though, and the top to finish before the turn up starts. Rather than wearing them underneath the jeans, if you see what I mean? That might just end up looking like

Oops, sorry. They might just end up looking like your trousers are too short Wink
