And I want to know the story behind it Grin

I would have said Chanel 19 as it takes me back to beginning university (my room-mate wore it) or the best year of my life studying abroad (_my flatmate wore it) Just that sort of backbite of zing that it used to have. Goddamn those reformulations Sad
Now, after not even smelling, let alone wearing Ysatis for about 30 yrs, I blagged a cheapo vintage bottle and it's bloody lovely. If I had to choose today, one to keep forever, it would be that. Only the old vintage though. And only till I get me an old formulation of 19.

Ferme Tes Yeux by JAR. I haven't smelt it yet but I'm pretty sure. From the descriptions it sounds as if it combines the best of all my most favourite things.

I could have tried it by now but I don't want a sample.

SirVixofVixHall · 29/09/2015 11:38

Those two were both so lovely. The reformulations have ruined so many decades old scents. And why? It seems completely ridiculous, as some people will still have allergic reactions. The Carons are all ruined, and the Geurlains....Tis terrible! My old boss wore Ysatis, and it makes me think of her. She was a difficult tempermental woman but she smelled amazing!
I am not sure what I would choose as I'm on a mission to find something new, but maybe the original Mitsouko, or L'Heure bleue. Chanel no 5. Diorella. Nuit de Noel. all pre changes.

OTheHugeManatee · 29/09/2015 11:41

Chanel Coco Noir for me. No story, I just love it Smile

MsBojangles · 29/09/2015 11:42

Miss Dior, before the EU stuck their beak in and insisted on ruining it.

SirVixofVixHall · 29/09/2015 11:43

Oh and the stories- Diorella, my first adult scent, reminds me of parties, and excitement, and that euphoric feeling of being 17.
Mitsouko and L'Heure Bleue, my first time living alone, properly adult, LB is a sad Autumnal scent, but it reminds me of that time.
Chanel no 5 is just a fabulous scent, and makes me feel festive and feminine. Not sure I would want just that though.
Nuit de Noel because someone very knowledgable about fragrance chose it for me, and for years I always wore it at Christmas. So to me it is Winter, and birthdays, and the glamour and glitter of Christmastime.

ceejoy · 29/09/2015 11:45

La vie est belle by Lancome. I absolutely love the stuff.

MizK · 29/09/2015 11:47

J'Adore because I have worn it for 15 years, and i have been told by a few close people that when they smell it they think of me which makes me happy ??

standclear · 29/09/2015 11:47

Oh, I used to adore the old Guerlain in the azure blue packaging. Wore it for years until it was discontinued. Visited every perfume counter I could find, buying up remaining stock, but they eventually ran out Sad.

Took me a year or so to find a replacement I liked. Eventually settled on Sisley's Eau de Campagne. Not as distinctive, and perhaps a little old-fashioned, but it is lovely.

Sanchar · 29/09/2015 11:49

Serge lutens - la fille de Berlin

Just the most beautiful smell I have ever come across and the only one I have had people stop me about. I had the sample and I am very glad Christmas is coming as it's quite expensive(to me! £75 for 50ml)

NoisyOyster · 29/09/2015 11:50

Violetta from Penhaligans.

Reminds me of a summer love affair when I was 20 and working in the south of France. Hot sultry evenings on a motorbike in the hills with he scent of flowers in the air, wine, and the best kisses (until I met my DP! Wink)I've ever experienced

Only wear it every couple of months when I'm feeling sultry and it's quite a deep and musky smell, but it takes me straight back to being giddy and in utter lust

Pixi2 · 29/09/2015 11:51

I'm still trying to find a nice rose one.
For memories - white musk, Charlie red, Chanel allure, ck one, Armani code - all my growing up perfumes. Loved white musk but it became uncool at secondary school, likewise with Charlie red, ck one, moved onto Chanel allure which I lived in but was wearing Armani code when I met DH.
For daytime at the moment - l'eau d'issy.
One that sums me up....still searching. I love roses but a lot of perfumes are synthetic smelling.

Sanchar · 29/09/2015 11:53

Pixi - the serge one is rose based

Noisy Grin that is also what the 19 reminds me of. Except in Spain. Wink

Marche aux Fleurs, by Fragonard. I first bought this, when we visited the Fragonard perfumery in Grasse, on holiday one year, and I fell in love with it. You can't buy it in the UK, so I order a couple of bottles at a time, and eke it out, using it only for special occasions.

M&S have started stocking some Fragonard products, but not Marche aux Fleurs. Sad

ThenLaterWhenItGotDark · 29/09/2015 11:59

I am taking preventive steps with my Ysatis and am using a vintage EdT but have wrapped a vintage EdP and hidden it away in case they all disappear. Buying up all the old ones I see.
My Mum had bottles and bottles of vintage Miss Dior and I had the one in the blue box. Dioressence? I quite like the new Miss Dior though how they get away with the same name is beyond me.

D&G The One. It's my all time favourite

Pasithea · 29/09/2015 12:02

My father bought me my first bottle of no 5 when I was 14. I had been sneaking my mums since about 4.

I have always always got no 5 on. It's the law and I'm 47 now.

Savagebeauty · 29/09/2015 12:04

Chamade by Guerlain.
I was bought it when I was 15 and wore it nonstop for 30 years. No story..just loved it

SilverNightFairy · 29/09/2015 12:07

Kingdom by Alexander McQueen. I owned two bottles in my twenties, at the height of a very powerful, very sexual relationship. Everything seemed more intense, including the perfume, thirty years ago...

Sanchar - thank you. I will buy it and test.

cathpip · 29/09/2015 12:11

Coco Chanel, my dh bought me my first bottle and I wore it on my wedding day, I never leave the house without wearing it :).

standclear · 29/09/2015 16:01

Oh, just realised the scent in the azure blue packaging I mentioned earlier was Givenchy, not Guerlain. (Long time ago now!)

williaminajetfighter · 29/09/2015 16:05

I love Eau demoiselle by givenchy. He only perfume I've bought more than once. Lovely rose and petit grain smell.

williaminajetfighter · 29/09/2015 16:06

Also Paris by ysl. First proper perfume bought at 15. Love it still
