I have a poncho in my virtual basket. ..

I am drawn to ponchos. I'm 5,7 an appley 14 with decent legs and a flat shapeless butt. In my head, with skinnies or short skirts and opaques a pincho will take me through till a proper coat is required. Am I deluded?

Hmm, a bit imo.

They make even skinny people look solid and square.

And like Clint Eastwood.

strawberryblondebint · 18/09/2015 22:05

I think they are fab. I am currently crocheting a new one for me. I think they look awesome. I like mine with flared jeans and boots. I am a hippy at heart

strawberryblondebint · 18/09/2015 22:06

Oh and link please

Lidlfix · 18/09/2015 22:13

Crap at links on phone but it's Miss Selfridge in Debenhams fringed black poncho 28 pounds. I have broad shoulders so used to being a square. I envy your crochet skills Strawberry. Did buy flares in the summer so could go for an autumn hippy look.

I love them.

HerRoyalNotness · 19/09/2015 02:44

You need the asymmetrical hem in a poncho to stop looking boxy.

I like them too.

squoosh · 19/09/2015 03:51

Anybody who wears a poncho and thinks it looks good is deluded.

LasAnya · 19/09/2015 11:08

I've got one, with an asymmetrical hem as HerRoyalNotness suggests. It works well with skinnies and boots, imo, but I am different shape to you - very tall hourglass.

They are handy for dry, cool Autumn days, I think. But maybe I'm deluded Grin.

Knackeredknitter67 · 19/09/2015 11:11

I'm always tempted by ponchos, but what to do with the handbag. I always have to wear cross body, need to be hands free. Maybe under the poncho, but that seems so clumsy

Greengardenpixie · 19/09/2015 13:07

I have had loads over the years and i would say, dont bother.
Where i live we simply dont have the climate. Its akward to wear a coat over it, too cold or wet to wear on its own. As for looks, some do look great with jeans BUT NEVER the blanket ones. I have seen people wearing these and imo they look like they are wearing a blanket. It looks odd.

Thank you for input - got to love splitting the S&B jury! I put it to a panel of much harsher critics; my 4 teenage DDs. They were horrified.

But then helped me pick a drapey, wrappy soft (fake) felt blazer and even used their student discount for me.

I still might if Primark gets super cheap ones that I won't feel guilty about impulse buying as per my cloak of Xmas 2013 Blush

I loathe them but they're obviously like marmite and others love them so if you do, enjoy.

NewBallsPlease00 · 20/09/2015 00:29

I fully intend to buy one for winter bf coverage!!

Nettletheelf · 20/09/2015 00:42

I've wavered a few times, but have been put off by the following things:

  1. Every bugger has got one. All of my friends have bought them and I refuse to walk around with them with us all wearing ponchos, looking like an all-female Mexican mariachi band.
  1. As mentioned above: how do you ever wear them with a coat? You'd end up with massive shoulder lumps, unable to fasten the coat. No.
mayum1 · 20/09/2015 00:43

You have the perfect shape to wear one. :)

Nettletheelf · 20/09/2015 00:44

Oh yeah, and one of my friends, having purchased a red one, said she caught sight of herself in a shop window looking a bit like a poisonous toadstool, and that took the shine off the poncho for her.
