Anything but the C-word!

OP posts:
GiddyGiddyGoat · 04/10/2015 10:04

That's a nice rug BTM but very unforgiving colour if it's the cream one you like. One cup of tea or coffee on that and it's a goner. We have a paleish rug but it's a mixture of colours - not patterned - more tweedy - and that makes a big difference. Definitely large not medium!

GiddyGiddyGoat · 04/10/2015 10:19

A bit like this

herbaceous · 04/10/2015 10:20

DPs, DHs, not-so-dear Ps and Hs, or come alone. There's room for all. Though nearer the time I'll need to know numbers to enable the correct quantity of vol-au-vents.

Molly - shall PM you an invitation. CV - can you PM me also?

motherinferior · 04/10/2015 10:43

When we moved to the house my parents still live in - I was 13 and my sister was 11 - my mum installed fitted shaggy cream carpet in the living room...

Oh btw on a more (comparatively) sane note she is suggesting to my dad that when the church (modern methodist one) at the end of the road is converted into flats they check them out. This option might just work.

bigTillyMint · 04/10/2015 10:56

Oh MI, that was all the rage then! We had a shaggy orange carpet in the front roomGrin

Yes, I agree, it has to be large. I wanted to get cream because I think it would change the look of the room, but it isn't a very practical choice. Would be lush thoughSad

MI, that sounds a great idea. How long away (in time) is that likely to be?

Here DH is doing much effing and blinding as he realises he has to actually remove the table legs to get the table into the kitchen...

motherinferior · 04/10/2015 11:02

No idea re timing. I might investigate. She is being v realistic about many things, and would like to get in a 'last trip to India' but there are logistical issues to do with the stoma and disposal - especially because of pollution taboos.

Collymollypuff · 04/10/2015 11:15

Thanks for the invite, Herbs. Smile

motherinferior · 04/10/2015 11:25

An S&B question!

I have a posh do tomorrow. At the v&a. Dress code is 'cocktail attire'. Wtf does this mean and can I parlay my collection of charity shop garments into it? Would my long black clingy frock do duty (it's done birthdays and funerals - it's not that clingy...)??

MrsSchadenfreude · 04/10/2015 11:31

I think dress codes have become rather blurred these days and a lot less rigid than in the 80s and 90s. Your black dress sounds absolutely fine, MI. Wear some nice chunky jewellery (I am sure you will) to avoid looking like a ginger nun and you will look great. GrinGrinGrin (I work with someone who looks very prim and proper, and dresses like a nun. I happen to know that she was a very enthusiastic swinger in her youth.)

Blackduck · 04/10/2015 11:36

Yoo hoo Beachy . You have you caught up with Dr Foster? Looks like the last episode will be a corker......

motherinferior · 04/10/2015 11:44

Jewellery vg idea - it's part of the Fabric of India exhibition so will make with appropriate decoration and poss shawl too.

Cremo · 04/10/2015 11:55

Can't wait for the whole Dr Foster show to be wrapped up. It was brilliant watching the Gogglebox people watch the last episode.Grin

MI I always think 'Cocktail' hints at a little sparkle.Thats good that dps are thinking ahead a little, and that property conversion sounds attractive. Wish I could get my own to think beyond the next rugby match atm. go IrelandGrin

Re rug BTM , definitely the biggest you can afford. What about going for a similar looking cheaper option in putty colour from IKEA , for example, which won't break your heart if it gets ruined. I'd also be looking at how easy it is to clean or get cleaned. Then buy your dream rug when The darling enfants are interested enough to respect expensive furnishings. We had to wait until dd moved outGrin

Dh is jam making with the last of the plums.smells divine.

GGG I definitely felt odd Hmmfor a while. In dds case, anxious as well. Does ds start into the 10weeks tomorrow? Lots and lots of luck to him.
Oh and Beachy , same to dd . Hope she has a super first term. Thanks

bigTillyMint · 04/10/2015 12:08

Good advice re rug Cremo! Will peruse further options.
DS and I shunted current sofa and chair to the other end of the room which creates a very cosy corner and leaves space to buy/put a new one - the DC are desperate for a modular one, which could possibly work and would enable me to move to a new colour (well natural!) scheme...

Black dress, jewellery and wraps sounds lovely MI.

Cremo · 04/10/2015 12:15

a large option BTM

BeachysFlipFlops · 04/10/2015 12:19

No, ssshhhh about Dr Foster..... I'll catch up on the train tomorrow morning (although not sure I can take so much drama at 7am) or Tuesday night at stupid o clock when I get released from my office!

Actually going up in Rudy's direction on Monday night for my board and lodging with a friend, so may catch up then..... Unless I have to sit with her Dh!

Dd2 has received three bags of hand me downs from a friend which I stupidly didn't 'censor' before she rooted through them. She is currently squeezed into tiny white hot pants. SmileSmile

herbaceous · 04/10/2015 12:27

I too am a Dr Foster fan, and am agog for Wednesday evening - though don't know how they're going to tie up quite so many massive ends in one neat knot.

I am giving away quinces on my front wall, and making leek and potato soup. Unheard of domesticity for this time on a Sunday.

bigTillyMint · 04/10/2015 12:33

Ooh, Cremo, thanks! Have just spotted this one which is cream and even cheaperGrin I was really looking for wool, but a man-made one would be much more durable and sensible!

NUFC69 · 04/10/2015 12:47

Hello again. MI, that's really encouraging news about DM. Just having a quiet moment whilst DH goes to get more sunscreen. We had a lovely, but exhausting day yesterday on our jeep safari, but we quite happy when it finished as our bones were being shaken to bits.

I hope everyone is enjoying their Sunday?

Blackduck · 04/10/2015 13:21

Snap Herbs - leek and pot soup here too.
My administrator got very cross with Dr F - she has been through the adultery thing and said she can't believe that anyone can hold it together the way she has....

Cremo · 04/10/2015 13:37

I can imagine BD. It's all a bit controlled.

BTM that's the business. I know what you mean about natural fibres. Still you can use a bit of a damp sponge on the synthetic one, without any harm.

Planting bulbs this afternoon, in a bid to have a bit of colour to look forward to next Spring.Smile

Lalsy · 04/10/2015 15:22

I think Dr F is supposed to br bringing her own issues to this - which makes it a good drama. Her control is intermittent ad vv focussed and nto always at the right times......I am enjoying it.

MontserratCaballe · 04/10/2015 15:48

Hello everyone. I've missed you all - sorry, it's been a hell of a week. We have one of the governing bodies coming in for an inspection this Thursday and I am one of the people telling them what it's like to be a tutor. Everyone else on the panel is a proper grown up, so I have had to read 000s of pages of very dull Registry stuff to try to keep up. I have failed miserably, but at least by Thursday afternoon it will be over Smile.

Herbs - what you said about DS made me sad. I hope he is OK.

GGG - I am sure your DS will have the most marvellous time away, but what a wrench for you! The bunny made me weep. Will you get to pop up to take him out for lunch in the next few weeks or will he come home for a weekend? Well done to all the returners, too.

MI - glad your mum is on good form. I know I owe you a text and am onto it Smile

Rose and BTM - owe you texts too. I will sort that as well. BTM, the rug is lovely but the putty is very pale. Is it wool? I have a similar one from Ikea in my bedroom which I love, but it does have a speckle in it to make it a bit more forgiving. I think the Heals one linked to was lovely.

My lovely DS has just come back from his first sleepover at Beaver camp. He is filthy, exhausted and currently asleep next to me, but so proud that he managed it as he had a little wobble when I dropped him off and admitted he cried when he was on a night walk and couldn't get his torch to work. DD1 went on a sleepover too last night so I just had calm, quiet, sweet DD2 to watch Strictly and eat pringles with. It was heaven. DD1 has returned on about 3 hours sleep (why? WHY?) and is grumpy so I have made everyone have a lovely hour reading / knitting / sewing in their rooms. Glorious.

I am off now to teach the girls to make pasta bake. They had it at a friend's and pronounced it delicious, having turned their noses up at my offering in the past. I shall therefore get them to learn to make it then there is one meal that I won't have to make an effort with at all.

I will try to keep up a little better this week. Hope everyone is well and enjoying the last vestiges of the weekend Smile

GiddyGiddyGoat · 04/10/2015 18:34

I think ds1's departure has sent me a little bit mad - which is understandable I suppose! I feel fine all things considered but my actions tell a different story... I KEEP dropping things constantly, I keep almost getting into arguments with people over the most ridiculous things - such as the man behind me in the supermarket queue who bashed his trolley into me twice, said 'oh did I bash into you? Sorry' then bashed into me a third time! and then I made tea without any teabags and then I carefully folded up a pile of dirty washing instead of putting it in the machine... You get the picture. If you see me give me a wide berth - I am a bit dangerous at the moment Smile Sad Hmm etc.

Collymollypuff · 04/10/2015 19:01

Completely normal, GGG - join the club. The sense of loss is almost physical. Well, it is physical.

bigTillyMint · 04/10/2015 19:08

Oh GGG have a Wine and sit on the sofa - you need to look after yourself.

Have spent the afternoon removing nearly everything from the sitting room and perusing sofa's. Anyone ever bought from Next?!
