Hey op. I don't have much to add style wise, as I'm size 16, live in London, and am mostly seen in skinny jeans and blazer!

However I'm a food pr and writer, so can help with that. If you want amazing food and an experience he'll talk about for years, consider www.archipelago-restaurant.co.uk/
It's near goodge st, so not far at all from covent Garden. (I'm not the pr for archipelago!)

Wow thanks, that looks amazing! Dh and Ds would definately enjoy that menu. Its all a suprise. He thinks that we are just going for a family meal. Very excited for him. He thinks he is going out that night with his friends ( I have had to swear his BF to secrecy ) .

A good pair of brogue from clarks will be very comfortable and also look on trend and not too try-hard. Not too expensive either.

There are several styles to choose from. My favourites are the hamble oak and they come in several colour ways this year.

HolgerDanske · 17/09/2015 13:02

Uhm brogues*

Tootyfilou · 17/09/2015 13:07

Yes I have looked at lthose online. Love the patent ones. I have a nesrly new pair of Boden patent loafers that are super comfy, but it may be raining so brouges will be better.

I think a pair (or two, if you've got £200 to play with Grin) of brogues would be an excellent investment for A/W!

Oh aren't I awful getting my shopping thrills vicariously Wink

Tootyfilou · 17/09/2015 14:01

Haha, yes very enjoyable isnt it.
Forgot to say, I have hideous legs ( calves like rugby player) so not happy to wear dresses.
Not very much self confidence, actually feeling quite anxious about staying in the hotel amongst much better dressed, thinner people .
My children are gorgeous so have no such anxieties thankfully.

Yes Maplessglobe is right, we aren't all stylish and skinny and whatnot.

I work in fashion and I live in Notting Hill, and I still see people of all shapes and sizes, in various dress both at work and on the street. Please don't worry about this at all.

Save your 200, spend it doing something fun in London, or blow it in selfridges, buy yourself something really special, you don't need to buy new stuff for a trip to London or feel insecure.

Covent Garden is very touristy, there will be people from all over the world looking all kinds of ways.

Have a lovely time, the hotel you're staying in is lovely, excellent choice.

As for restaurants, I don't have specific recs but please avoid that italian place in the main courtyard thing in CG, it's shit.

Tootyfilou · 17/09/2015 18:35

Thanks both you are very kind. However I really do need to buy some new clothes. Work wardrobe part scrubs part boring workwear.
Would love some style pointers.
