Winter coats for taller women?

Datschi · 17/09/2015 11:06

I'm on the look out for a warm, waterproof winter coat; my current one isn't fully waterproof, and I have a feeling we might be in for a wet winter.

I'm on the taller side with broad shoulders and long arms, and I often find women's coats too short in the body, or with too short sleeves.

Also my children's winter coats have grippy cuffs in the sleeves, which stop them riding up, but I can't seem to find any adult coats that have this feature.

Does anyone have any recommendations of places to look, or am I going to have to look at teenage boys jackets? Sad. I'd like something that looked a bit more feminine

Seasalt janelle is a good length. Sleeves don't meet your requirements though here

I saw a lovely long navy down/puffa style one in the new joules collection. Definitely worth checking out. I have one similar, worth every penny and so warm too.

Maybe not for waterproof coats, but I am finding that Gap seem to have more and more stuff in their Tall range, which is ace for me.

Maybe also look at some of the scandi brands for outdoor wear, eg Didriksons

I have tried Joules and Seasalt coats on before, and found the sleeves about an inch too short - I think I tried that Janelle one on in the shop.
Shame, as they would be perfect for what I want otherwise, but I'd have to go up several sizes to get the sleeves the right length, and then I'd look like a sack.
I didn't know Gap did a tall range! I'll definitely have a look. I have looked at Next tall, but there's nothing really weatherproof.

I've never seen Didriksons, guessing I would have to go to a proper outdoor shop?

I just bought a lovely fitted craghopper coat from TKMaxx. It's a 3 in 1 so a coat within a coat that you unzip. I love it. They sell them in other shops so worth trying out. And if you have a TKMaxx near you they have a lot of coats in at the moment so worth checking out.

It's taken me forever to find the just the right waterproof and this one fits the bill for me.

This is the one I have

Have a look at Gap, (and top shop, and asos) tall range if you haven't for a while, as they do seem to have upped their game a bit. But they're all mostly online - the store stock is crap.

Eg there is www.gap.co.uk/browse/product.do?cid=68137&vid=1&pid=000534089001 in Gap tall which seems to have your sleeves but is down so won't be properly waterproof.

And I have had a massive memory blank on 'all' the scandiwegian coat brands apart from didriksons! But there are some others and they tend to cut taller.

I'm 5'11 and have broad shoulders and long arms, too.

I've got a Didrickson parka (not cheap, but very durable - mine is three years old and still in perfect nick). Very warm, totally waterproof.

I've also had successes with coats that fit in Tesco (yes, really!) and Next Tall (although go and try them on, don't do online, as their sizing can be a bit off).

I found a Merrell coat in TK Maxx for £25 Shock
Obviously being 5ft 10, broad shouldered and busty I thought no hope. Fits like it was made for me and it's so comfy

goodasitgets · 18/09/2015 18:04

Oh also I got a sprayway jacket for horse riding and that fits lovely, v long in the arms too

goodasitgets · 18/09/2015 18:07

This? Looks long on the model! Has cuffs too

I'm 5ft9ins and have a Didriksons Mary which has lovely long arms with cuffs. It is fully waterproof and warm. Waist is in the right place for my long back

I went to a Blacks to check the size, then shopped about online. You can sometimes get an ebay bargain but the German site bergfreunde is often v cheap too (but expensive to return hence check your size first!)
(Also use topcashback for bergfreunde)

Datschi · 19/09/2015 10:53

Thanks, I think Didriksons might be the way to go, they look just the thing!

I just need to find somewhere where I can try a few on now.
