Should I cut my hair?

I have neglected my hair for a long time, it's been well over a year since it was last cut. It's down to bra strap level now and really thick. At first a haircut wasn't a priority money wise, but I've purposely left it the last 6 months or so as I was growing a fringe out and I can't decide what to do with it. It takes forever to dry and straighten so I very rarely do either and normally let it dry naturally and put it up. It won't hold a curl anymore because I think it's just too heavy. It sounds sensible to have a good few inches cut off doesn't it? I'm so undecided!

What is your face shape? It might be worth popping into a hairdressers and asking for advice as you have a good amount of hair to work with!

I'm an oval ish I think! I tend to suit most styles. I've booked an appointment but it isn't for a few more weeks yet. I have a good relationship with my hairdresser and and she knows what suits me well. I think I feel like I need to come to terms with cutting it which sounds ridiculous. Practically, long hair is no good for me Sad

I got to that length and had to cut as the ends were getting ratty... The girl washing my hair at the salon pointed out that it was getting very tangle-y. Also, at that length I was starting to get caught in my own hair when trying to turn over in bed.

I cut about three inches off and it looked much better. I'll now grow it out again... I still want that length, but better condition.

It sounds like style is part of your problem... You may consider some layers that preserve much of the length.

I know what you mean, my hair is the same. I keep growing it but I think shoulder length suits me as much as I'd love longer hair! I still regret it every time I cut it...

I have a long face but am very petite so long hair just drowns me :(

Have a long choppy cut (just past shoulders)with chin length layers. Best of both worlds.

Jeremy that was what I was thinking, I fancy a change too and it would look different but I could still put it up. Thanks everyone, it seems like such a hard decision but it is only hair it'll grow if I don't like it thank you

Good luck with it :-)

The being able to put it up is v important I think. It gives the illusion of having long hair for those days when you want to revert back (mentally at least) to how it was before your haircut.

Hair is such a fickle thing. When mine is long I want short and vice versa.

One motto I have learnt if that when I think it looks crap it usually looks OK though - so don't act in haste. Having said that a change is always great as long as you don't go straight from bra strap length to pixi crop! (I would def not be able to handle much change that in one step!)

Kobrakid · 17/09/2015 19:47

I've done the pixie crops and I'm never going back to hair that short! It took forever to make it look decent in a morning. I think just below shoulders, to neaten it all up and I can still do it up. Thank you!

Bra length hair can look great in your 20s and 30s but can be tricky in your 40s.

Kobrakid · 18/09/2015 20:09

I'm almost 33 so I'm well aware I won't be able to pull it off for too much longer. I've had my fair share of crazy cuts and colours but I'm aiming for a more 'grown up' style now! Although saying that my Nanna is almost 90 and has amazingly thick white hair so if I have that when I'm older I might bust out the wacky cuts again!

This is the first time I've been so het up about a haircut I don't know what's wrong with me. Usually I just go for it.
