Well, in NYC? I've got my eye on a bag.

Hi, not sure about NY, I just bought a beautiful bag in Florida outlet mall for $189 inc tax which I thought was a good price.

EldonAve · 16/09/2015 08:47

You can check the prices on the US website but make sure you add the state tax on too

The outlet shops tend to have a lot of made for the outlet bags not current season

GERTgert06 · 16/09/2015 08:47

From my experience, Coach isn't really cheaper in the states, except in the outlet stores. Of course the outlets don't reduce the price of new lines.

EachandEveryone · 16/09/2015 09:22

I won't be going to the outlets I might look in C21 but I can't cope if it's like a jumble sale. Is there anythibg worth buying there. Kate Spade?

The prices in the main stores are generally around the same number of Dollars as they are in GBP in the UK, so yes, you make a saving given that the exchange rate is £1:$1.5

Kate Spade is similar.

amarmai · 16/09/2015 19:11

there's good outlet malls in suburbs of NYC . The stores are just like regular stores- no jumbles!

Gillybobs · 16/09/2015 19:21

I've been looking into this as I'm off to NYC in three weeks. The bag I'm after is £295 in Selfridges and listed as $325 plus tax so quite a bit cheaper

HermioneWeasley · 16/09/2015 19:29

As elf says, I found coach to be the same in $ as we pay in £ in their regular stores, and their outlets have strong discounts

cashewnutty · 16/09/2015 20:20

The Coach outlets are so not like jumble sales. I have bought items out of many of these outlet shops. They are lovely.

EachandEveryone · 16/09/2015 20:26

I wonder if there will be any sales on or if the Maceys discount applies

Macy's offer the discount but you may find they have bits in the sale. I picked up a £400 Marc Jacobs bag for about £150 last month.

EachandEveryone · 16/09/2015 21:14

Somebody once told me that you can ask for a different discount card on top of the visitors one, cannot remember what it was though!

Given the exchange rate Id imagine it's cheaper here in the US. re the outlets, most of the stock there is made for outlet so you won't get the same styles and materials as a normal store. There is a small selection of stuff from the main collections but it's usually in seasonal colours.

What bag is it? I have my eye on a couple too and they sent me a 30% off card last week so I think ill be taking a look this weekend Smile

AHypnotistCollector · 17/09/2015 05:14

You can find some great designer bargains in the department store outlets. So I would defnintely check those out if you can. Nordstrom rack, Saks off fifth and Neiman Marcus last call.

EachandEveryone · 17/09/2015 09:20

Are they central? Where did u get the 30% off is it a mailing list thing?

OP posts:
quangotango · 17/09/2015 09:25

which bag? I am after one too.

EachandEveryone · 17/09/2015 10:37

I want a green hobo bag it's new season though so won't be in an outlet. I'm fascinated by this 30% off voucher though!

Macy's are great for having lots of discounts in store. They also do a 'special' discount for tourists, to compensate for the fact that the USA doesn't have a tax-back system. Take your passport with you and do ask the sales assistants whether they can give you any discount. I think you used to have to go to Customer Services (with your passport) to get a special discount card. Can't remember whether you still need to do that, or whether the SA can just apply the discount at the cash desk.

Woodberry Common is a good outlet mall in NY state, and they have a Coach. They run buses there from NYC.

When you get to the Coach outlet shop, look out for SAs handing out vouchers for additional discounts on that day. I go to one in Florida, and they are always handing these things out for an extra percentage off the already discounted price. If you don't see anyone doing this, do ask someone.

EachandEveryone · 17/09/2015 12:09

Oh I don't know if I will have time to go out for the day I have to stick to Manhattan/Brooklyn.

OP posts:
TheWatchersCouncil · 17/09/2015 12:22

Macy's then!

AHypnotistCollector · 17/09/2015 15:00

They send out the discount cards as part of their 'preferred customer event' every few months. Not sure how you qualify, it seems a bit random but be sure to fill in all your details with the cashier if you do buy something.

EachandEveryone · 17/09/2015 17:58

They won't send them to the uk though unless it's online. Shame. Any other stores worth signing up with? I know gap give 30% but I'm not bothered going there.
