What bags do men take to work these days?

My DH has a significant birthday coming up and I would like to get him a leather bag for work. In needs to hold his laptop and other stuff but I don't know if I'm looking for a briefcase, messenger, satchel.... Or does it even matter?? He'd like to wear it across the body and quite often wears suits (dark grey or navy blue) to visit clients so it mustn't be excessively casual but equally, he won't like anything too old-man ish. The colour, brown, or maybe a dark tan? Budget I'd say £200. Or is this bad idea anyway?

I know my DH is lusting after a dark brown battered leather messenger bag for work! There are some nice ones in m & s but he doesn't need to take a laptop or tablet or much around with him for his job. Not sure would be big enough to accommodate a laptop etc.

Most men I know and see on the commute go for a smart rucksack. A few have the messenger/satchel type. I bought my husband one of the latter for Christmas a few years ago but these days he favours a Thule rucksack.

I got this m.johnlewis.com/mt/www.johnlewis.com/barbour-wax-cotton-messenger-bag/p95330#page_loaded for my husband last Christmas and it has been brilliant. He's used it every day and it hasn't aged at all. The barbour website has a few different styles too.
