Breastfeeding and Acne

I've always had hormonal acne. It was bad in pregnancy and now I'm breastfeeding, it's got really bad.

Has anybody found a safe to use solution for it? Before pregnancy, the pill was the only thing that worked for hormonal acne. I know I can go on the mini pill - does this work for acne?

The mini pill is more likely to cause or exacerbate acne.

the combined pill can reduce acne, as has more oestrogen - which counteracts the male hormones. So, Dianette and Yasmin (?) work as anti-androgens. Worked wonders for me.

I imagine that while you are still breastfeeding you wont be able to take anything much to counteract this.

Avoid all progesterone-only contraception (that includes the implant and Mirena as well as Depo, and oral stuff). They all tend to exacerbate acne. Agree Yasmin is great but probably not the greatest while breastfeeding.

You should be able to use some topical stuff to help control it. Pay a visit to your GP, s/he should be able to help you.

Brilliant, thanks! I had Benz-something topical gel prescribed for acne last year so I will go and ask for some more.
