Hello,

Where is the best place to search for really warm coats? Im looking for a casual one for walking the dog in the park, wind proof definitely and length to mid thigh.

I really feel the cold so need something super warm. I'm a 6/8 size

thx

I got one last winter from one of those discount outdoors/camping shops (Mountain warehouse, something like that). It won't win any style prizes but it's waterproof and incredibly warm and goes in the washing machine. Cost about ??30 I think

I bought a long puffa coat from a horse supply company on line. It is v v warm. I think it was ride away.

CMOTDibbler · 10/09/2015 12:53

They are no thing of beauty, but the Lands End coats are super warm. I have a mid thigh down coat from there, and have been cosy in -20'C with just office clothes underneath. If you look in the clearance section then they have some great discounts.

A fleece and shell says previous dog walking oh. Mountain warehouse, go outdoors.

smilesandsun · 10/09/2015 13:15

CMOTDibler I was thinking lands end perhaps might be a good solution. What one did you go for?

Dowser I think i need something warmer, I really feel the cold! I wish I didn't

Another one for Lands End. I don't think all their winter coats are in stock yet, but I can recommend the squall parkas (especially the long ones) which are great for wet, wintry weather . Their down filled coats are also good for very chilly weather.

CMOTDibbler · 10/09/2015 13:32

The closest they currently have to mine is this one - mid thigh, fleece lining, detachable fur trim hood, hand warmer pockets.
I do have an assortment of warm coats as I'm outside a lot and feel the cold, but this is my favourite. I do layer a LE down gilet under waterproofs, and also have one of their long line fleece parkas as well.

BikeRunSki · 10/09/2015 13:35

YY to lands end
Or Patagonia if you are wealthy and want something a bit better cut

RaisingSteam · 10/09/2015 18:19

Lands end squall parka is my football watching and dog walking coat. It has a great hood and is properly waterproof so can wipe off paw prints . Don't forget a thermal top and good gloves. It's v dull in black I suggest colourful scarf!

smilesandsun · 10/09/2015 19:35

thanks I was considering a squall parka for the reasons you said..... do they come up big or small?

CMOT I like the look of that one, do you think its waterproof?

I have a knee length coat from Seasalt, it's super comfy and properly waterproof, cosy without being heavy. The hood and shoulder area are lined with comfy fleece.
Only issue is a couple of the poppers have popped off...anyone know what their customer service is like?

StillFrankie · 10/09/2015 20:27

I would like a dog walking coat too but a deceptive one - warm and waterproof without making me look like an eskimo!

Jemimapuddleduk · 10/09/2015 20:35

I got a gorgeous barbour parka last December when there was the 20% off deal. It's waterproof, really warm and lots of pockets for dog biscuits/poo bags etx. It looks smart too so can be used for work when rainy.

Murinea · 10/09/2015 20:57

AlfAlf - A couple of poppers on my Seasalt coat broke within a few weeks of starting to wear it last autumn, I wrote to their customer service, and they quickly sent replacement poppers alongside instructions on how to attach them! I've found them quite lovely to deal with.

leadrightfoot · 10/09/2015 21:00

Deerstalker Lady Charlotte coat genius warm waterproof robust not too bad to look at

SirVixofVixHall · 10/09/2015 21:01

I have a Land's End one, down filled, that is really warm. They do Tall fits on the US site, so I bought it from there and the long sleeves are great.
I also have a North Face coat, bought in Sweden, that was a lot of money but is two coats, a down one and a waterproof, that popper together.

AlfAlf · 10/09/2015 22:46

Thanks Murinea Smile I'll get on to them.

RandomMess · 10/09/2015 22:53

I ended up with a Lands End one. Tried a few one to find the one that looked the most acceptable!!

I'm tiny so needed a petite fit which limited options of most other stores.

Oly5 · 10/09/2015 22:53

North Face Arctic parka is amazing - very warm and waterproof. It's an amazing coat and looks good too
