Where can I find some to keep my toes toasty when it's cold?

Right now, I'd settle for clothes with a decent wool content. When did all the sheep and cotton plants die necessitating the carpet bombing of the high street with acres of polyester and viscose?

Oly, I find that Gap do lovely funky socks, with wool, but just before Christmas. John Lewis usually sell them too, and you could try Uniqlo for their heat tech socks. They are lovely and warm but I like the extra bounce underfoot that wool gives.

I too am v. depressed about the man-made fibre clothes everywhere. They never wear well.

It makes me sad about all the nice cotton, linen and wool stuff I've taken to charity shops in the past. It's getting harder and harder to find anything as nice in the sips these days. I'm starting to wish I'd just stuck it all in the loft for posterity.

RomComPhooey · 04/09/2015 22:33

shops, not sips obviously.

I like the thick "Kirkland merino" ones you can get on Ebay.

I've been darning my old wool socks just to keep them going! Did treat myself to some "smart wool" ones last year, though. I bought them online from a hiking shop in the Lake District.

Sorry that is supposed to say 'some really nice socks'.

BikeRunSki · 05/09/2015 06:00

Goat socks these are fantastically warm, but thin enough to wear with ordinary shoes. Don't let them being goat wool put you off! They are very soft and durable and don't smell.

mathanxiety · 05/09/2015 06:10

I buy my wool socks in the men's sections of department stores. Men get the best socks, I have found.

SeaRabbit · 05/09/2015 08:23

In fact sock shop if you search for women's and filter by 'wool':

Wehey! Thanks for reminding me that I like wool socks best OP. Thinking about it I do like the extra springiness that you get even with thin wool socks.

Are bamboo socks warm? Oh loves his bamboo socks and they have. Ome down in price.

Btw viscose is a natural material made from p,ants.

Costco do really good merino wool socks with a padded sole. I'm not sure if they have them yet but have them every year in Autumn. They come in packs of three and are about a tenner.

cressetmama · 05/09/2015 14:07

Corrymoor Mohair socks are great. Wash well but don't tumble dry. Last several years, and never smell of feet. The best your feet can be. My wellies and walking boots love em.

BikeRunSki · 05/09/2015 14:09

I wear bamboo socks. They are cool in the summer and warmer in spring/autumn but not warm as wool in winter. Pure wool socks will wear out very quickly, they need some cotton and polyester content (at least 30%) for durability.

Thank you guys, very helpful!! I love wool. For clothes with wool, cotton and cashmere, I've found White Company and Boden to be good sources
