I wear a size 18 which is fine and dandy and I never have any problems finding clothes but recently I've seen a rise clothes without numerical sizes with the s,m,l etc type sizing. What on earth do these sizes mean??? On one website a size xl came up as a 12.... on what planet is this extra large?

I've noticed with my fella too. Got him some swim shorts the other day online that were an xxl.. A size he would norally wear but they were huge.

Why can't the powers that be do universal sizes.

I hate them too. I was looking on tommy hilfiger site the other day and their tops are s, m, l and xl and their trousers are like 34, 36, 38, 40, 42. which i think is hips, in inches? apart from their trousers that are categorised by waist and they were 28, 30, 32 etc....

Don't get me started on the disparity between waist and hip size.... I have to wear a size 20 in most trousers because for some reason clothing manufacturers don't think fat women have fat ass and thighs. Size 18 trousers just don't fit my bum and thighs so I end up with a baggy waist but tight thighs.

I hate this too. Also "one size fits all (8-12)" NO IT FUCKING DOESN'T!

I was looking at some GokWan vests in Sainsburys (£20 for three-nude/black/white, but there was a 25% off)

Couldn't for the life of me work out sizes, they all looked tiny but I'm sure they have stretch. (s-xxl )
I haven't tried any other GW to compare.

I always carry a little tape measure in my handbag. Before trying anything on I measure pit to pit and also from shoulder seam to hem line. I then know if it's worth trying on. Also use it to check if a 'bargain' would fit DH.

I was under the impression that
8=XS
10=S
12=M
14=L
16=XL

which I think corresponds in Oasis and a few other shops I use. But H&M is different again. Why indeed do shops do this?

Then there's the whole can of worms of brands that just make up sizes - hello Ted Baker, with your sizes 1, 2, 3, 4.

frikadela01 · 02/09/2015 22:22

I'm glad I don't shop at ted baker... unnecessary stress over sizes.
