Hello! Please can someone find this mythical coat for me please? I am crap at shopping for something specific.

Would like a coat that will actually keep me dry and that is good quality to last more than one season :-s

  • Ideally with a sturdy hood or even with a peak as I wear glasses and in the rain I always end up unable to see. If I'm wearing this coat I'll most likely also be child-wrangling or pushing pushchair so need to be able to see.
  • Long enough to cover bum :)
  • not sure about budget, depends how much the average is, but let's start with up to £150. Ideally less but I do want a good quality coat.

So can anyone recommend good brands etc? Think I will want to go and physically try it on and choose my size as want it roomy and maybe even work with baby in carrier.

Thanks! Flowers

I bought a Berghaus pac a mac this week from Millets it's great. It folds into a tiny bag and looks just like a normal coat when on and has long sleeves, long back and a hood that covered my whole head. It was £63 so quite pricey but as I hate umbrellas it just lives in my handbag and takes up no room instead.

Merrell. They do some lovely styles. Usually available in Blacks to try on.

Look at this thread - a bit old (it filled up last winter) but hopefully it will give you an idea of brands to look at. I have a Seasalt coat. Very good - not high fashion but definitely waterproof & the hood stays up!

Try Decathlon. I just got a dark navy jacket from there, designed for recreational sailors so pretty waterproof which is the most attractive waterproof coat I have owned to date. Cheap too, only 45 Euros (let's gloss over the need to buy a waterproof on holiday in France though...).

I have or have had decent nice-looking actual waterproofs from Skogstadt, Ilse Jacobsen (the softshell ones), and Seasalt (I have the Hellweathers).

Also a giant North Face parka for the depths of winter which is both waterproof and incredibly warm.
