Can clip in extensions ever not look shit?

I've always had very long hair, last year I stupidly had it cut to just-touching-shoulder length which I bitterly regret. It's grown quite a bit and is now almost armpit length.

I've bought some extensions. They are very good quality and very thick but I just can't get them to look right or blend in. My natural hair is very thick and although the extensions are too, it just makes the hair near my head thicker with thin ends where it's just extension and no natural hair.

Fuck knows what possessed me to buy them.

Do any of you know any good tips or have I just thrown money away?

My friend had them for her wedding and they looked fab but she has her hair all curled at the bottom which is probably the best way to hide them.

Have you had them cut in? Because it look very obvious with a shoulder length layer, then just extensions.

I'll give that a go, thanks!

My hair is either frizzy or just flicky when straight which is why it's so hard to hide the ends I think.

I didn't think to have them cut it, seems like a very logical thing to do! I'll see if that improves the look before I knock the whole idea on the head.
