Nose job - anyone had one ?

I've always had quite a good sized nose. With a bump on the bridge. (I think i might have broken it as a teenager when I fell forwards on to my face!)##

Am now in late forties- and still umming and aahing about getting something done to perhaps just remove the bump.

I can afford to pay for it now - but of course, it is a big step.

Any good or bad reports please?

I need one, I know that.

I have been looking online at before and after photos which are quite amazing.

The one thing that puts me off is apparently you have tubes of cotton wool stuffed up your nose and when they are yanked out the pain is excruciating. Don't know if that's true.

I also worry that I would look so different that people wouldn't recognise me or that they would think I was vain.

Also interested in replies.

I just wonder if it is worth it - as I have managed to put up with it for so long?

I could still be a glamorous grannie with a perfect nose I guess :)

I think the same. It has never affected my life chances in any way and only a couple of people have ever mentioned it. It is huge though.

I would love one really would I see pictures ôf myself and my nose is the part that doesn't fit. I think I would be actually quite attractive if it wasn't for my awful nose its long, broken with bump, asymmetric and too big for my features I need a trim neat nose.

I want one - but been and met with a consultant & he was rubbish so back to square one! The before & after pics you see online look fab but the way he was talking it sounded like I wouldn't see any difference Sad

I had septorhinoplasty. Am still waiting for swelling to go down fully (takes months) but there is already a massive difference.

And yes they do pack your nose with "tampons" overnight!!!

After the op was pretty horrible but worth it.

I looked into it, but there was a 25% chance I'd be left with some adverse impact on my breathing (these are the normal stats, I'm not particularly high risk) so I decided against it. I saw the consultant for the second meeting and I was umming and ahing, and asked what she thought. She said "by this point, most people can't wait to have it done. I wouldn't if I were you".

thanks for replies.

hmmm will ponder a little longer.

alliwant how did you choose your surgeon?

I had one 13 years ago and it was brilliant. Before, my nose was the one thing about me that you noticed. Now, no one notices my nose. It's not perfect and you definitely don't look at me and think "cereal has a lovely nose." You just don't notice it at all.

My surgeon did tell me though that they can only work with what you've got. So they couldn't have given me a 'Victoria beckham' as it was too big to start with.

I don't remember it being painful removing the dressings, I remember coming round from the anaesthetic and talking rubbish though which was mortifying.

Do it!!!

Alliwanttodoissleep · 30/08/2015 19:38

I didn't get to choose my surgeon - mine was done on the NHS. Not for cosmetic reasons (although obviously there has been a cosmetic difference) but because I have never been able to breathe through my nose and it transpired this was because my septum twisted and blocked both airways so septorhinoplasty was the only way to solve it.

I was very lucky in that my consultant was a private surgeon aswell so he was determined that as well as fixing my breathing he would "give me a beautiful nose". And he has done both. For the first time in 29 years I can breathe with my mouth closed and I love my new nose. As above they can only work with what there is to begin with, but mine is now perfectly straight and the massive bump is gone (well apart from swelling).

Basically it's changed my life :-)
