Party dress, criteria "sparkly"

KaraokeQueenOfTheNorth · 29/08/2015 16:21

My friend is having a party. Everyone has to wear something "sparkly"

I have nothing to wear and I look dreadful in eveything St the moment. I am a size 14-16, a dumpy 5ft nothing and an apple shape I think (huge tummy and big arse, ok legs!)

I want to look nice. If I have to spend money on a dress I want to feel good in it. Budget probably not more than £30, less if possible as I may well never wear it again!

Please help, I'm useless at shopping...

I think if this was me, instead of buying a sparkly dress I'd never wear again, I'd buy some gorgeous sparkly sandals like these and some blingy sparkly jewellery and clutch bag with a plain black outfit.

What about a sequinned or sparkly top with your usual style of trousers. If you aren't a dress person you may be more comfortable

InQuiteAPickle · 29/08/2015 17:15

What about something that you would normally wear with a sparkly statement necklace?

KaraokeQueenOfTheNorth · 29/08/2015 17:49

I do wear dresses but casual skater style ones usually. I've not been out in a long time so no dressy clothes that fit me at all - have gained A LOT of weight since my last social occasion! OnLy trousers I fit into at the moment are skinny ripped jeans which I don't think are appropriate it's quite a posh party...

How about some sparkly nail varnish

StatisticallyChallenged · 29/08/2015 19:35

ASOS have quite a few sparkly party dresses in their sale - a few skater shaped ones which could work if that's a shape you like?

not sparkly but would look great with a spangly belt and accessories
lipsy
unusual shape, definitely sparkly

dorothy perkins sparkly shift, slight over budget

ScarlettDarling · 30/08/2015 08:48

I love the 3rd one that statistically linked to, what do you think?

www.boohoo.com/going-out-dresses/tanya-sequin-shoulder-neon-flash-swing-dress/invt/azz28502
This could work with opaque / leggings, and there's 20 percent off and free delivery at the minute.
If you do a search on the site for 'sequin' there's loads of stuff that might work.

coffeenut · 30/08/2015 12:23

the Dorothy P one is cute & would look great on an apple.

fatnan76 · 30/08/2015 20:51

What about this ASOS

sparkly, long sleeve, skater and only £28 - you might even wear it again.

KaraokeQueenOfTheNorth · 31/08/2015 08:48

Thank you so much for all the links everyone! I may have just spent rather a lot of money with the plan to send back anything that doesn't work ;) I love the long sleeve skater one, and the DOrothy Perkins one looks like a good shape and style for me.

Will report back once everything arrives and ive seen what fits / looks good :)

Thank you for your help!

The long sleeve skater one is gorgeous and a total bargain!

PetiteBateau · 31/08/2015 11:45

I'd go for sparkly accessories & a dress that you can wear afterwards too

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 31/08/2015 11:48

I'd buy a dress that I could wear again, ditto shoes, and pair it with something like this.

BrendaandEddie · 31/08/2015 13:52

to be honest, I am not sure a Skater dress sounds at all suitable for your body shape

KaraokeQueenOfTheNorth · 31/08/2015 14:39

What shape would you suggest? :)

OP posts:
KaraokeQueenOfTheNorth · 31/08/2015 14:40

(I mean dress style, I can't change my body shape in time for the party lol)

BrendaandEddie · 31/08/2015 14:42

not a flared skirt if your bum is big

superram · 31/08/2015 14:43

I am also an apple and tend to go for aline or straight shift dresses, anything with a waistband makes me look like a sack of potatoes tied around the middle. You might look great in skater but not for me-try everything and see what you think.
